I have been very interested in getting a good solid M1 Garand for shooting for a long time. A person on another site mentioned U.S. Army Armory as a good possibility for solid shooters, but in trying to do a search I could not find/get to the site. Anyone help me with getting to the U.S. Army Armory site or have other suggestions for finding a good solid shooting M1? I am not looking for collector qulity at all. Something around $200 or so. Thanks.

you find them for that price, buy a trunk load of them !
the CMP guns are going for $500+ now !
just my humble opinion.

Bubba is on the money with this one. A CMP M1 in the $400-$500 range may not be all that good of a shooter, and will probably require a re-crown and some stock work. Good grade M1's are pretty salty.

That's a nice one! Just by looking, and the .002, I'd say you got that one at about half price! Congrats!

The pictures brought back memories to me. This was the rifle that I competed in many matches with and the one that I was trained to accurize in Springfield, Ma. If you can find one that is National Match quality (NM) stamped on some parts you will be ahead. Also, there is a NM sight that replaces the original giving you the option of taking half MOA settings. Glass bedding the stocks, adjusting the operating rods, doing trigger jobs are all part of my memories. It is indeed a great rifle. I believe that the Springfield Armory is now in Illinois and that they still offer this rifle new. I know that they offer the 1911 .45 Cal. Pistol. Maybe it is the 1911A1. Bubba your comment of hearing the clip ejection took me back into the fifties.
