I have not used one in many years but they do the job they were intended for. Good to 100 yds and maybe even 150 yds. They were the light short gun years ago, but today you can get light (6 lb.) short rifles in better calibers (308) but they are bolt action. Ruger makes an excellent product weather it be hand gun or rifle.

i have a 44 mag rifle in a marlin lever action. it took some practice and different loads FOR ME to get it to shoot the way i wanted it too. i love the gun and ive gotten 2 deer with mine. it is fun to shoot and not punnishing at all. heres my set up not an expensive scope either and i get 1.5 inch groups or less at 100 yards. img.photobucket.com/albums/v479/whyohe/P1280010.jpg

I am in the process of resurrecting a Ruger .44 autoloading carbine that has been in a closet for a long time.
So far it's been cleaned as good as possible without complete disassembly.
The goal of this rifle will be primarily a fun gun. Plans are to install a Leupold 2 X & VXI.
2 of us shot this gun yesterday at 50 yds with the peep sights. Gun functioned fine and the best group was about 1 1/2 inches. Neither of us use peeps much other then on our bows.
It's quite a neat little gun offering some pretty nice firepower in a very little package.
Does anyone know how light this gun can be loaded while still cycling the action?

Rifle was designed for 240gr's, you might get away with 180's if you open up the gas port.

Beats me never done this particular rifle, but have down alot of gas guns in the past. Just open it up with a drill a couple thousandths at a time, who knows, better check, this might be a blowback and there is no gas port!
