Well, this morning I finally made a descision. I've been trying to talk myself into buying that new rifle. Then I've talked my self out of buying it. Sooooo, before I changed my mind again, I rushed off to the gun shop and bought it. Of course it wasn't that easy. I showed up at the store as they opened, told one of the reps what I wanted and he got it out of the back. Then picked some bases and rings and a box of bullets to start off with. Now the waiting began. Before I could pay for and take the rifle home, had to register it. Wouldn't you know it, the firearms registry is closed until 10:00am. When 10 rolled around all their lines were busy. Finally they got through, got the paper work done and I was finally able to pay ;D ;D. I walked out it was 10:45. Only 2 hours. Anyway, the bases and rings are on, the scope is mounted and sort of bore sighted. Got to try out my new laser bore sighter. As luck would have it there wasn't enough to center the windage so found the zero, and adjusted the re rear base. Should be good to go, if the weather ever smartens up. I bought one box of ammunition. That's to get me on paper and zeroed. I plan to hand load. Originally thought of using 150 grain bullets but none in stock. Decided on 165 grain. Should be a good all around bullet for what ever, deer, moose or elk. So now I'm the proud owner of a Tikka T3 Blued barrel and synthetic stock chambered in 300 WSM.

I was doing a little reading on line yesterday and found that this rifle has a pretty fast twist, 11. That might be what has something to do with it alledged accuracy, out of the box. We'll see.

Congrats. 165-180 will work fine for everything you may see here in Sask. Take a look at the Nosler Accubond, great all for 1 load that has been very nice to work with from my expereince on the range. I have limited 300wsm/165 experience but the one load we worked up was 165 TSX and AB's best powder in that rifle was IMR4831.
BTW what scope did you put ontop?

For now it's topped with the Bushnell 3 - 9 I took off my Savage last summer when I bought the new Elite 3200 for it. It stood up to the Savage recoil and it's inline predessor. We'll see how it works.

Congrats on the new rifle. Sometimes you just gotta do it. Let us know how it shoots.

RAF What's with this Tikka craze? I was just talking to another guy that bought one. I am going to have to look into this for myself. I just bought a Stevens 223 and except for a little bit heavier trigger pull than I like this is a great buy. Deadly accurate right out of the box. Not Fancy by any means but functional.

Tikka claims MOA right out of the box. We'll see . What I liked was the weight. It is light at about 6lb. May cause a little more felt recoil but recoil, IMO, is only felt at the range. Never notice it when shooting at game. The other thing I liked was the trigger. Set at the factory at 3lb and very crisp. Can adjust it down myself to 2 if I like. Price was good too. Better than many other makes.
