Today I was going over some of my plans to work up loads for the new 300 WSM. The more I thought of it, the more I figured I should have a Chronograph. Sooooo, before I changed my mind I rushed off to the local gun shop and found them. Well, since I don't have much experience with them, it was kind of confusing looking at the boxes with different models and prices. Checked with the owner and he explained the difference in all the different models is the amount of memory. They all function the same. For my purposes all I needed was the F-1 Chrony. Grabbed it and out the door I went, after paying of course. Read the instructions and should do the trick. All I'll need is a note pad to make notes as I go along. Now if the weather would only smarten up I might get to use it. Might just have to set it up in the back yard and try some 177 pellets through it

Actually, I've used them before, but never owned one. It will be nice to have one on hand when I need it instead of trying to borrow one on short notice.

I took it out in the back yard this morning and shot some 177 pellets through it. Used 2 different spring rifles and one is definetly better than the other, by 100 FPS. Also have a CO2 pistol and it's putting out pellets at 370 FPS. Now I know this unit works. Anxious to get to the range.

Mine is a shooting Chrony, model F-1. No remote print out. The next model is the Alpha and it's got one for a little extra money. The printer is also available for a few bucks more. Mine cost me $109.99, Canadian and the next one was about 20 more. It also records more shots. Mine records 10. Maybe someday I'll want more but for now it should do the trick. The LCD screen is big enough so you can read the numbers from 10 feet away, which is where the Chrony will be.

Whyohe, check out the PACT web sight,I got their cheapest model about 2 years ago and it has the remote display,I have the F-1 also but like the Pact a little better because of the remote display.I think I gave around $125 for the pact then straight from the factory.

RAF, on another post you indicated that you need approval from the wife for foolishly spending money. There are two kind of husbands, henpecked and d@mn lyers. As for the chrony, I never wanted one but as a reloader working up loads they would sure come in handy. As a country boy my daddy told me that all bullets were traveling at twice the rate of half their speed. I been considering this for years...was he talking muzzle or out there where it counts? I admire a man who admits that the wife is in charge. Good luck with your toy and don't confuse bullet speed with sabot speed as it goes through the loop. Now, for a serious question. Are they accurate plus or minus what?

Hey Ozark. Actually I'm not henpecked. My wife and I are actually best friends. We'd better be to stay together all this time . She doesn't mind too much when I spend money on some of my toys. She does ask why I need it and I explain. She's usually accepts and then goes about her business of going through catalogs looking a things she needs for the house. She gets most if not everything she wants. As I said what has me worried is the way she's looking at our kitchen and some of the kitchen reno magazines she's looking at. That's going to get expensive . That statement made by your daddy has me scatching my head too. If you ever figure it out, let me know. About the accuracy of the chrony, I don't rightly know. I'm guessing it's real close. Lastly, I haven't had a chance to try it yet but will as soon as it dry up some more. I can't wait. I'll use it first to work up my load for the 300 WSM but I'm anxious to try all my firearms in it to see what they're doing. Also gonna shoot my bow through it.

Be careful you don't put a sabot through the chrony when you test your savage. I put a board in front of mine and leave the rods stick up. I have to go down and look to get the speed but that just helps the gun to cool.

I've already built a box for the Chrony and the front is Lexan which will stop the sabot. Now I just have to remember not to but the bullet through it
