Some time ago I saw some posts about protection for a Chronograph. I'm not concerned when shooting a rifle through there but the Sabots might do some damage from my Savage. I've searched but can't find it. If my memory serves me correctly there were even some pictures. Any help here would be appreciated.

I think that's it. Thanks Bubba . I'm not sure if something like that is what I want to build. I'd have to figure out how to mount the whole works on a tri-pod.

Go to the local hardware store and check out blind nuts that could be pressed into the bottom of the box that would accept the 1/4 - 20 thread from the tripod.

Already done that this morning. I learned they were called 3 prong T nuts. Specialty store I was at was all out of 3 prongers so ended up with 6 pronger. Should do the trick. Now it's just a matter of setting up my table saw and building it. Maybe I should draw some plans up first

Another very easy way is to take the "rabbit ears" off. If you need the sunscreen, improvising one is pretty easy with some forethought. Place a brick in front of the chrony.
You'll usually find some mangled sabots that hit the guard.....often behind you!

One the weekend I got busy in my garage and cut plywood to make a box. Since I didn't have any 3/4 inch plywood, I used 1/2 and 5/16 and glued it together. This morning I picked up a piece of 3/8 Lexan and then using my dado blades cut a groove near the front for the lexan to slide into. The whole unit was then assembled using carpenters glue and brad nails. The 6 prong T bolt was set into the base and the box was stained. It's now drying in the garage. Wonder if I should varithane it. Anyway when it's dry I'll mount it on my tri pod and put the Chrony in and see how it looks. Probably post a picture for your opinion.

Looks good. Only use the "rabbit ears" if you must. Sabots will smash them.....or worse yet, toss the chrony around when hit. I've used the same Chrony you have without the rabbit ears for a couple of years now. Unless it's really sunny, you won't need the sunsheild.....IME. If you do, there are other ways to craft a sun sheild really easy.

That's good to know. I've been worried about those rods and the diffusers. Already been online pricing out replacements if I need 'em ;D.

I got one of these from Grouse, myself, only one problem, second shot out of my NULA, the sabot smashed through the thin plexy that is supplied, luckily it missed the front of the chrony and came to rest beside it in the box, the plexy needs to be thicker, since I tossed the box and just got a thick piece of plexy and taped it to the front of chrony, problem solved, Just my experience with this product. My velocities were in the 2300 fps, range.

When I built mine the idea of using plexi glass came up and it was recommended not to use it but to go with lexan, which I did. Supposed to be much stronger. Haven't hit it yet so can't confirm that that is the way to go but makes sense.

The box I got from Grouse has sustained multiple sabot hits with no damage.
