I haven't even fired my new Tikka 300WSM yet and I'm already thinking I need a Limbsaver. Everyone I know tell me it's gonna beat me up. Recoil doesn't bother me too much but it might influence my shooting a little at the range. I've checked my local store and they had one in grind your self. Not an option for me. I could make quite a mess of it. They also had some ready made to fit, but not for my rifle. I checked on line at cabelas and they they have what I want. What I'm wondering is has anyone tried a prefit one and how close was it to the proper fit.

RAF I hope it fits but I haven't tried a pre fit style. I elected to use the slip on type and am satisfied. Fitting a recoil pad to a rifle is something that I have seen messed up many many times. Usually it is a job for a gunsmith or someone with the correct tools and handy with them. I think you are wise to reduce the recoil as much as possible.

I was thinking the same thing. Shoulder just ain't what it used to be . I guess to took on too many offensive linemen and running back way back when I was still a pup. Doc tells me I've got a little arthritis going in my joints. Oh well, the price you pay for havin' fun in you youth. About that slip on. Do they come in different sizes and how do you figure out which one you need. I kinda looked at them on Cabelas sight and unless I missed something couldn't figure out which one I needed.

RAF I would order one of the pre-fits and the slip on, keep the one you like the most and return the other that way you could see how it fits the stock ( the prefit pad ). Some of them are fine, others are so-so I hear, depends on the model. -bubba

I bought mine at Wal-Mart. I picked up a medium and a small. At home I eyeballed things and opened the medium and it fit perfectly so I returned the small unopened. I didn't really feel bad because at the return item department I noticed that someone had returned some tomatoes and green peppers. I am sure the store just trashed these perishable items.

Ozark, our Wal-mart's, of which we have 3, don't carry much in firearm related goods. Probably has something to do with our gun laws . I made a decision yesterday. Ordered the prefit limbsaver from cabelas. I wanted something was permanently attached to the rifle. I also order a recoil pad for my shoulder. Not so much for the 300WSM but for the other rifles, especially the savage.

Well folks, my now prescision fit limbsaver arrived in the mail today. I sure feels nice and seems to have more give than a lot of other recoil pads. I went to my gun room this evening to install it. Now I should say that my greatest fear was that it wouldn't fit right. Well, it does. It's perfect, IMO. Now for the real test. Weather here has smartened up and for cast for the Saturday is temps in mid to high teens (C). Should be at the range to test the pad. Of course I won't have anything to compare it to because I haven't fired the rifle yet, but, I already feel less recoil ;D

This new limbsaver works great. Shot today and fired just over 50 rounds. This 300 WSM recoils pretty good, but my shoulder is just fine. Do have a bit of head ache though. This rifles jars you pretty good . All better now. Got home and had a couple of liquid refreshments and I'm good to go.
