As far as I know there have been only 2 bolt guns made in 44 mag. The Rem 788 and the Ruger 77/44. I have never shot either one and was wondering if anyone here had any experience with either one and could tell me the accuracy potential, what bullets they like, trigger quality, barrel quality, etc, etc. Thanks Rman

The only 77/44 I've fired was suppressed - I think 7 inch barrel. Shooting 44 Spl sub-sonic ~900 fps you can hit anything you can see 75 - 80 yds. In a full rifle with 44 Mag 150 yds should be very reasonable, I base that upon my 100 yd pistol lack of skill. Comments on the weapon -- it's a Ruger room for improvements, but serviceable and functionable. If you have or know of a 77/44 for sale please PM the police dept wants another one to suppress.

If you want a new one you better grab fast. Ruger stopped production of the 77/44 in 2004.

Rifleman, I own a Ruger Model 77/44 inwhich I have a Leupold 2 to 7 power "Shotgun Scope" mounted on it. I find this rifle very accurate and below is a sample of what it can do with good handloads: Note the "flier" was my fault as I "flinched" a little. ;D
