From all you deer hunters out there. If a person had a 22 inch barrel with a 1 in 12 twist and could have whatever powder capacity he wanted, what would be the best flat based bullet in size (diameter), weight, manufacturer, type for shots from 50 yards to 200 yards that you would recommend and why. Speeds would be kept between 2200 fps and 3000fps. This would be for deer only.

I would suggest a .308 Winchester loaded with a 150 grain bullet. Velocity would be around 2,700 FPS. You can also "load-down" to .300 Savage or .30-30 levels for lighter loads. Almost any manufactured 150 grain .308" dia. bullet would be ideal. Use the more blunt or round nosed bullets for short range and wooded areas. The spitizer flat based for longer 200 yard shots on Deer. The .308 rifle normally has a 1-in-12" twist, and the best powders, I've found, are IMR-4064 or WW-748.
