This afternoon I was able to get to the range to try this new rifle out. It was a little cool and a bit of a breeze but not too bad. I like the way the rifle shoots but not thrilled with the scope. When I bought the rifle I decided to get a scope that was stainless as well. Didn't want to spend too much so the only thing I could find was a Tasco in 3 - 9. I had the rifle bore sighted at the gun shop but couldn't hit paper at 100 yds so tried 25. I was on paper but 3 inches high and 3 to the left. Made the necessary adjustment and no where on paper. That's when I found out the Tasco is completely backwards from any scope I've ever owned . Finally got that figured out and finally got it to hit the bull at 25. Moved out to a 100 and it shot high. A few more adjustments and I was in the bulleye. I grouped all my shots in the bull and inside 1". So was pleased. I tried shooting off the bi pod and it didn't group as well but I thing that was me . Bi pods are new to me so I'll need a little work. As I said the rifle shoots great. If the weather cooperates I might just get out this weekend and see if I can spoil a few gophers day ;D.

My friend was at the range to re-zero is 7mm REM MAG. He also has a tasco on it. It's weird too. Most scope are 4 clicks to the inch. Not his. 2 clicks to the inch . Makes it harder to be precise. Any way here's a picture of the target I shot yesterday. You'll notice holes all over the paper. That's from trying to figure out which way to turn the dials. Finally got it zeroed and the 5 shots in the bull were one group shot from my rest and bag. The 5 under the bull were shot from the bi-pod. The diameter of the bull is 7/8 "

RAF,
You will see soon that groups off a bipod will be in different places then off of bags.
I get pretty serious with my heavy barrelled .243 in the spring and summer with the woodchucks and I do my final sight in prone using the bi-pod and a rear bag because that's how I shoot when hunting at long range.
From the bench, the front pressure point is closer to the breech. The hold on the gun is slightly different too. The bipod, being mounted on the sling stud, puts the resting points farther apart.
My differences in POI are not huge but need to be adjusted for. At 100 yds I wouldn't miss a woodchuck but at 300-500 I would!
As for the scope you have...good luck. I used to buy tasco's when I was a kid and young adult because I didn't have much $$$ to spend. I've personally had everyone fail except one which is a 2 X 7 world class...It's about 18 years old and has seen ML's, slug guns and 22's. All the others have had adjustment issues, broken crosshairs and clarity issues.
That little .17 is the coolest thing since sliced bread. I think I told you or someone this before....The 20 FMJ has by far been the most effective load on woodchucks for me. The faster BT's sometimes let them get away with a chest shot. Yeah they die but they do it in the hole. The 20 gr seem to anchor better and they shoot good from my gun too.
Looking forward to your experiences with you .17...Keep the reports coming. Finally got some spring weather up there or what?

whyohe, I never looked at the instructions, who does? A scope is a scope is a scope, I thought, until now. Wilmsmeyer, I thought it was spring too until today when it started to snow. Big wet flakes. That's stopped and melted some but the forecast has changed. Originally temps of +11 and now + 3, maybe . Soon I hope.

I've got one of the last Japanese made Tasco scopes. Had a chance to get three, but opted for just the one. It is one of the Range Finding scopes with a double reticle and have it on an Encore action on top of a Tactical 20 barrel. The combo is a real tack driver, and the scope clarity is comparable, if not superior to a Bushy 3200. Kicking my backside now for not getting the other two. It was probably the best Tasco ever made (or ever will be made).
I really love my Marlin 17BSS, and it is also a tack driver. It has busted a couple crows @ 165yds and does 1/4" groups with the Hornady 17gr HMR's. Since I can reload my Tac 20 for the same price as buying the HMR's, however, I don't do much plinking with it. It sure is nice when I cannot use the .20, though! ;D
