Hi Deerstalker:
I shot my 12 pointer in Southern Illinois, I believe it was Charlotte county, but I am not sure on that one.
I hunted with Rocky Creek Outfitters, they have over 7,000 acres of free roaming white tails. I believe he has over 90 food plots and over 150 tree stand sites.
You have to shoot a mature white tail that is 3.5 years or older. If you shoot an immature buck you are fined $500.00 bucks!! I did a combo hunt for eight days, 5 days archery and 3 days shotgun and muzzle loader.
These guys are dead serious about their deer hunting. I was in a tree stands for eight days. From before sun up to sun down, 12 hours a day.
I am hooked on Illinois for big bucks. The night before I watched a 150 class ten pointer get his butt kicked by a monster buck that was at least two feet wide and two feet high. I climbed down from my tree stand as fast as I could and got to within 275 yards of the monster. the light was fading fast and I couldn't risk the shot.
My Booner is a once in a lifetime buck, BUT I will be back next year to try my luck again... ;D
Regards... Jim P.

Hi Bubba: You are correct, his body wasn't as big as some other Illinois Bucks, but he was BIG body wise compared to PA bucks. His neck was 22 inches, I know this because he is at the Taxi and I had him measure the neck for the correct form. I believe they said he would go around 180 lbs dressed.... I will try and post another picture. In this one it shows the thickness of his neck and shoulder..

What kind of muzzelloader did you us? How far away was the deer when you shot him. Sure is a nice one.

Hi Blue:
I was using a Winchester 50 cal X-150, three pellets of Trip 7 (2) 50... (1) 30...total of 130 grains. Shot a TC SW 250 grain bullet.
The shot was a lasered 160 yards, the buck green scored around 190 BC..
I did a hunting article, story, about the Buck. It will be featured in ( BOONERS MAGAZINE ) & ( The Little Book of Big Bucks ) August 2006 Issue.
It was the same article I did for the Big Buck Contest.

Hi MM:
Thanks.... Yeah those flying reindeer where hooked up to a swing set to keep the deer off the ground. We had some hungry pooches at the farm were at.
The amazing thing was, the night before I shot this buck, there was a bigger one that kicked a 10 pointers butt. I jumped out of my tree stand and ran across a field to try and get a shot at him, it was to dark to shoot when I finally got set up.
I will post the story here on this site if you guys would like to read it?
Regards... Jim P.

Here are three STORY's.... May take minute to load... This is the 12 point Buck.. members.aol.com/Stallion43/Booner.docThis is my 46 in Cape Buffalo members.aol.com/Stallion43/dreambuff.docThis is the Black Bull Giraffe... members.aol.com/Stallion43/Blackbull.docPlease let me know what you think. These two other Hunting articles that were published in SCI Magazine and Journal of the Everyday Sportsman. One was for a 46 in Cape Buffalo taken in 2002 in Africa, Tanzania, this was an exciting hunt to say the least. He scored 115 SCI in the record books. The other was a giant Black Bull Giraffe, he was called the The Black Bull of Dingwall. I took him in 2004 in Zimbabwe when I was hunting for Leopard. This is the only board that I have posted all three stories together. Hope you enjoy the read... Regards.... Jim P.

Great story and great buck. Did you do an autopsy?

Hi Wilms:
Yes I did.... the TC Shock wave seem to have disintegrated. There was one bullet hole going in and none coming out. He was hit in the front chest quartering back, lungs were mush, which makes me think the bullet fragmented greatly.
You have to remember that this was at 160 yards, and my velocity had to drop drastically, and still I think my bullet came apart. That is one reason why I am trying the Bonded TC SC,s in my ML10...

PAHunter, Great story, very informative and well written. Very nice buck, congratulations. Sounds like a great place to hunt, would love to try a hunt like that sometime. Hunting here in MD. is the same as PA. not much chance of a very nice deer like yours. Congrats again and good luck on future "booners".
Good Hunting Al

I'd love to hear about the giraffe! I mean, I've read a few buffalo hunts, but a giraffe... How much does an animal like that weigh?

Hi MM:
I think they guessed over 3000 lbs.... mine was a really big boy. I put both the Buffalo and the Giraffe Story under my Buck Story. You have to scroll back to read the other two.
A short line, when I was on my second Safari I had a string of 7 one shot kills.... UNTIL I shot my Giraffe... I was using a 300 RUM and it took (2) neck shots and (6) body shots to stop this bad boy.
