I have been hunting and fishing actively for over 70 years and have never, before now seen two very poisoness water moccisans (Cotton mouths) mate in the wild. I was lucky enough to have my son with me at the time and he was lucky enough to have brought his telephoto lens. The "dance" continued for about ten minutes. Here are a couple of picture I can share. theboydclan.com/Snake1.jpgtheboydclan.com/Snake2.jpg

Those are some nice pictures. Ought to submit them somewhere.
No poisonous snakes where I hail from..I generally have a severe dislike for the slithering, unblinking, no legs, forked tongue of any snake. A phobia to say the least.

I also have a fear and an acute dislike for these creatures. However the event we witnessed was rare enough to make it interesting for us and we decided to share it with my posting friends here.

Come on people, these pictures should create some responses. After all everyone has respect, fear or a tendency to like these creatures. Even if you want to use your turkey or deer killer on them.

Ok,
The pictures are great!
They make me glad that there are very few posinous snakes around here!
Snakes ALWAYS give me a start, but I calm down to state of fascination and appreciation shortly there after. Tons of vermin are cleaned up by snakes, so if they ain't biting me, they are my friends! ;D

Aren't they mezmerizing! Wow! I often have a hard time not reaching down to pet cottonmouths and copperheads when they sit there so motionless and watching. They just seem so serene and like they're carved out of stone. Have to make sure I don't look them in the eye for too long...

Great pics! while not a great fan of snakes I have had enough fall into the boat from trees over time that I can remain calm as I flip them out- it always amazes me the speed they swim....I swear they could out swim a fish .... Rick

This will be difficult to believe but the snake pictures and a short article I wrote made the front page of our local weekly paper. This tells you how far back in the hills I live.

Good pictures of my least favorite subject. When fishing as a kid on several occasions I had the nasty things fall into my boat, or find several of them clinging to my stringer of fish when I picked it up. Yuch!!! I learned a use for the sharp edge of a boat paddle.
