I was hunting along the Wabash River during the second week of firearm season. I was moving along the river slowly rattling, grunting and then waiting. Doing this every hundred yrds or so. It was a cold drizzley day and the leaves were falling like rain from the trees all morning! I was about 4 hours into my hunt when i decided to take a late morning break. I had just finished a rattling sequence and spotted a log pile close to the river edge that looked comfortable i rattled again and then settled in to it to get warm. After about 10 minutes sitting there i noticed something moving acrossed the woods about 150 yds. I coudn't tell it was a deer until it got closer. It was a big buck and here he come straight to me! He had his head straight out and his back was postured and he was walking very slowly and stiff legged.
He got about 30 yrds from me then stopped and looked both ways. His breath was blowing out both sides of his nose like a bull! He was ready for a fight!!! Instead i just lifted my 50 cal. blackpowder rifle up slowly took aim and let him have it! After the smoke cleared....there he was! He dropped like a rock right in his tracks! It was an AWESOME morning to be in the outdoors and i love it when your calling deer in while hunting in big buck country and anything can happen! This is one of many memories that i will always remember!!
Thanks for letting me share!
If i did it right...there is a picture to go with this story!
