Been thinking about trying .454" cast RB's in my 45 colt and was wondering if anyone's tried it and if so what was the results? Just wondering if they'd make for interesting target/plinking rounds....something different than a conical bullet. Could use a wad to take up case space and lighten the load some too?

I've been kicking around similar thoughts. Never done it but I read an article years ago, the author? as I recall did load 38 & 45 revolver loads w/ ML round balls. He used smokless light loads, but I don't see why BP wouldn't work as long as there was no air space left. Keep me informed. I've got a new 50/70 to play with so I'll have to get back to the RB idea when I get bored(if ever)

Mark, I have a Speer manual (number ten) which gives smokeless loads with a .454 round ball for the .45 Colt. Unique 4.5 grains 632 fps. 700X 4.0 grains 566 fps. SR 4756 5.0 grains 565 fps. Red Dot 3.2 grains 568 fps.
I don't have any loads for black powder but would think smokeless would make the revolver easier to clean anyway.

Thanks for the smokeless loads Doug but I'm going to be using Goex. I've got filler wads I normally use under cast conicals so I can use reduced loads with the RB's if need be. I'm going to try both reduced and full power with 2F Goex and I'll let you know how these turn out.
