I realize this is for cartridge rifles but information would be appreciated. Can 3fg in 2 3/4 drams with 1 ounce of shot be used in a 12 gauge damascus breech loading shotgun with all brass shells instead of 2fg. Any thoughts. Thanks

I would work up from a lesser charge. 3F is going to burn a little hotter and faster than 2F thus produce a higher/faster pressure rise. I never tried 3F in my 10 ga but some experienced ML shotgunners have said they use 3F in all gauges. I'd probably start at 2 drams and see how she patterns and go from there.

I have no experience other than shooting and hunting with a number of double barrel muzzle loading shotguns as a boy. I have heard from people who are supposed to be knowlegable in such things that due to the manufacturing process of hammer welding the metal, a damascus barrel can lose strength over a long period of time and let go even with black powder. If it happens there is no warning and may happen after many shots have been fired with no problem. The people I discussed this with say proof testing is no insurance that the welds won't give way. I ended up buying a Navy Arms 12 ga. and rebuilding it with an original buttplate, trigger guard and ramrod thimble and browning the barrels so that it looked and felt more like an original. It has served me well for more than thirty years
