Does anybody have any information on a snyder rifle. It appears to be breech loading conversion loading in the same fasion as a trapdoor springfield. The breech opens to the left side instead of back to front though. The markings on the rifle are not in english, I think (swag) that they are from india? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi They were used extensively throughout the British Empire and there are still a few to be found in Canada, Australia and here in New Zealand. Initially, it is my understanding, .577 Enfields were converted however then production began in real terms of the actually Sniders. A few of the guys I shoot with still use them and the artillery version with the short barrel is MOST unpleasant to shoot as it bucks like nobodies business. The cartridge from memory shot a 450gr Minie on 70gr of Fg. Non trival really. cheers Jeff
