How far back does the break open action date? I have seen a picture of a .77 breech loading rifle. It was a break open action that had a removeable iron chamber which was loaded with power and bullet. It is a Flintlock constructed by Fvlick Sarvum circa 1690 in England. The picture can be found on page 115 of Powder and Ball Small Arms by Martin Pegler. I'll take a looksee to see if something earlier was made.

That's plenty early enough for what I want. Got a little project I'm considering but don't know how well this pig is going to fly yet.... Thank you, very much appreciated.

Is it going to be a break action Percussion Breechloader like my Smith Carbine or a later gun? Speak man, speak! ;D

No, actually a CF BPCR. Been looking for info, not much time right now getting ready to move so my resources are limited for now. Just looking to go with an easy to make simple action in order to keep the costs reasonable. I've been considering using a production made action for now and concentrating on just making a barrel to see how things work out, the later on worry about building a whole rifle that is more PC.
