does anyone have any loading dies they want to sell for this cartridge? Also have you got a pet load that you feel is accurate? I have heard that you could buy these shell already loaded but don't have a source. Pocampo

I found this source for black powder ctg's at the pittsburgh gun show...AARDVARK LABORATORIES,LLC (630-620-5244). For the dies, try Huntington Die Specialties(530-534-1210) That might be an old number, but will give you somewhere to start...The problem in general with 50 cals. is that there is a much more limited amount of bullets available as compared to 45. Lots of hefty felt recoil with the "big fifty"! Good luck...

frosty, thanks for the info. I will check the sources you list to see what I can find. I was thinking I might just buy some loaded ammo instead of all the loading dies ,etc. needed to load my own. I realize the Big 50 has less ammo available to choose from, but you just never know when you might see a BIG Buff......Ha,Ha! I also have a .45/70 C. Sharps so I have that covered. Pocampo

Have that rifle reamed out to 50-140 and you got a winner! Criples on one end and kills on the other! Get the dies and roll your own, when you see the cost of loaded ammo, it'll quickly change your mind on shelling out the cash for the reloading equipment. Biggest thing is that you have no control over what's used in the loaded ammo and after spending a pile of cash on the ammo, you may find it does not shoot worth crap in your rifle. Lee will make you any mold you want for $125, all you need to do is send them a drawing and tell 'em what alloy you're going to use. Haven't checked but I think they will make dies to your spec's too for a whole lot less than what others charge. Besides, loading is half the fun of shooting BPCR

I had bought some Black Dawg ammo in .45-70 just to try out my Trapdoor and then reused the brass for reloads. Man what a difference! Using the proper 405gr bullet along with Swiss 1 1/2Fg improved the accuracy compared to the factory loaded ammo by quite a bit! Also, the Swiss powder wasn't so dirty either.
