I am considering Throating a 45-70 BPCR that I own...The problem is that the existing throat is extremely close to the chamber end. By throating the chamber .250 to .300 or so, It would facilitate "shallow seating" of bullets. I have heard that Throated chambers are for paper patch style ctg's only. You would be closer to 45-90 ballistics by doing this...

I don't see a problem with it provided it's done correctly, don't let just anyone start hacking on the inside of the barrel w/o knowing the quality of their work first...best way to destroy a good rifle is to give it to someone who does not know the proceedure.
My 45-70 is throated and will shoot either grease groove or strait sided PP bullets equally well. No luck with tapered PP's though. I was able to go with a much longer OAL than is seen with non-throated chambers which does allow more powder but the longer 45-90 has more room so no matter how hard you chase it, there will always be some distance to cover. Not discounting the 70 by any means but no matter how you twist it, bigger case means bigger boom.
