So I'm in my treestand and finally the matriarch (SP) doe walks within 20 yds. and looks right at me. No problem I don't move but she definately is watching me. Then she moves downwind behind a tree but has her head out watching me.
Anyway a buck is following her and he starts to walk off & its almost dark so I slowly take aim useing my 20 yd. pin and shoot. Didn't hear the arrow hit home but the deer (there were three all told) took off. Didn't hear any crash so its now dark so I climb down. Searched and found my arrow with no blood at all on it but the broadhead completely broken off. No blood could be found where he was standing or in the general area.
So I' guess the arrow hit low and hit the ground which has rocks all in it and then bounced and landed where I found it. As I dug it up I kept digging to see if the broadhead was in the ground, it wasn't. I'll be out there first thing i the morning and will let you know if I find him. If I missed him, I'll stay out and hunt till evening. I will move the stand though because she absollutely had me pegged and they know the stand is there now..
Guess I undershot him

I'm jeolous. Still bow hunting. Up here our hunting season closed 2 weeks ago. Even if it were still open, bow hunting is out of the question. Temperature this morning is -23C or -9F. 10 minutes in a tree stand and you'd be as stiff as the tree and shaking so hard you wouldn't be able to hold steady on a deer. With the snow on the ground blood trails would be easy to follow but arrows would be impossible to find. GOOD luck Masterhunter in your efforts today.

DaveK. Don't feel too sorry for me. I had a successful year. Filled two antlerless tags with my bow in September. Filled my whitetail tag with my 10ML in October and shot a nice mulie buck with my 30-06 in November. Have more than enough venision in the freezer to get me through the year. There'll be lots of Jerky, Sausage and Venision steaks around here. The only thing I miss is being out there. But that's not the case today. Reached a high of -23. Right now it's -25 and the forecast low for tonight is -33. I think I'll be quite happy in a warm bed. Now if I could only talk my wife into staying there with me all day tomorrow. ;D ;D ;D You said you're hunting until end of January. Is that with your bow or otherwise.

I should have mentioned that those temperatures are in Celsius. I'll let you do the math. But either way it's cold.

Well, I will admit, I have to do a little math since I am used to Fº. But, even with that, I have the clothes and the desire to "be out there". The temp. do make you "time" your hunt, but I have climbed into tree stands and stayed on stand for 2hrs. when it has been - 5ºF. Heck when it gets to above 10ºF it almost seems balmy! I love it best of all when it gets cold. Deer NEED to feed and are like clock work. Only the animals and I are making tracks and it is beautiful out! I have taken one deer in Mich. with my Grandpa's 30-40 Krag, he brought home form WW1. Muzzleloader season is next week and I will bowhunt before than and after than.

Good luck on staying warm with the missus. -33º does lead to shrinkage

Not if you turn up the thermostat on the furnace and the electric blanket.

I will say around my parts, when it goes below 20ºF, most hunters call it off. I actually though really do enjoy it. My wife would tell me to turn up the thermostat.

Well I undershot the buck because he was 31 yards and not 20 as I had thought. I moved my treestand to see if I might be able to intercept them on my next hunt.. The arrow shaft wasn't broken just the SlickTrick broadhead where it screws into the shaft..
So I undershot and hit some small rocks and it broke off the head. One of the two deer I've taken this year with the bow had the same broken off broadhead. Except it was covered with blood after passing through the doe and hitting a rock and losing its broadhead.
Got down to 23@ farenheight here today and I didn't see any deer at another location I hunted after moving the above treestand. Oklahoma archery ends 1-15-05, yea!
