Never used any Scent-Lok stuff - first year hunt w/bow. Everybody suggest odor elimination, which I agree. Killed deer without that stuff, but keeping open mind wanted to hear Your opinion on that. Also,if that Scent-lok stuff does good job-would next to skin layer of that stuff eliminate all the odor and then you put your regular hunting gear over that- would that be enough ? When went to the store Scent-lok is everywhere-pants,jackets rain-gear ,parks etc. What I'm getting at is this- if you buy the whole outfit-which for Ohio should be pretty warm - you looking at spending hundreds of $$$. Just trying to be pragmatic. What you all think? Oleg. P.S- Getting that close to the deer and connect with the arrow-that is quit the experience. At first I hesitated- Now I'm in.

I do not dispute that it may well help. Every advantage is a benefit. At the same time I do not use those products and have more deer than I can count walk just under my stand or within shooting range and cannot recall one spooking because of scent. Some have when they spotted movement on my part but that has been very rare. What is the harm however ,other than the cost?

Personally I never used the stuff. 2 years ago took my first deer with a bow and 1 year ago took 2. I'm cheap and can't be convinced I need it. But if you're so inclined, go for it. Can't hurt.

Consider myself moderately cheap or price conscienced, but if makes sense -open check book. By the way starting to love this forum.
HAd deer walk walk right by my stand as well but had killed so far only two. Missed a few times - them broadheads make nise tree trunk decoration. ;D
As far as the Scent- lok goes - my ears are still open.

I hunt with and without using scent control clothing and have not noticed a huge difference one way or the other. I think the most important aspect of scent control is just trying to reduce/minimize the foreign scent that you give off so that it is not a factor that wrecks an opportunity. Whether I use clothing like scentlok (one in a while) a silverfiber baselayer with regular clothing over, or just regular clothing, I do wash all of them in scent elminating detergeant and use the unscented soap and shampoo. I also use scent eliminating spray on self and equipment a bit before departing for the woods with the hope that it helps to reduce scent. Bottom line it is up to you, as you will give off scent (through mouth) regardless what you wear. Scentlok type clolthing is expensive though, so may not make sense. The baselayer that I more frequently use was about $55 to $60 for top, bottom and socks, so may be the cheaper alternative. Good luck.

I have not had a problem with deer catching my scent from a tree stand if I can get up high (20+ ft.) I did have some get my scent years ago because I was wearing leather boots to the stand. Rubber boots with scent spray seems to have cured that problem. Scent-loc clothing would have to cover you from head to toe if was going to help.

Those are very valid points about covering head to toe or not at all.

While I didn't have any deer scent me while I was in the stand last year, I did spook quite a few on my walk out after dark. I was walking on a groomed trail so I didn't make any noise walking out, but the deer were downwind of me. I think spooking those deer impacted my deer hunts for later on in the season, both gun and MZ. I saw less deer during daylight hours, but an increase in after dark activity after spooking the deer during bow season.
So, I'll wear the ScentLock suit that I have this upcoming year to see if that makes a difference.
I don't believe that my footprints or scent in the footprints made any difference because I walk in the area daily/weekly and don't see a pattern change during the year, just after I spooked them a few times walking out after dark.
