Went out Monday evening( dropped kids off at 3:40PM,went home, picked up gear, went to the farm.In the stand at 4:30PM)
Just settled-3 bucks came in,all still have racks on.
Wind is just right-they come out the woods into this secluded corn field and start munching. Back and forth.
10 min.later biggest of 3 comes my way,some more,5 more steps.
Turning broadside.Branches in a way. By now I am all calm as I can be.(watched 3 bucks withis 30yds from me whole time
He steps 3 more steps and stops. In the past I almost always had to stop them somehow.
This one like in the book-stands broadside and looking away.
I put pin on where heart is and slowly pull the trigger.
Thump! I trace arrow as it hits him exactly where aimed and -Impact!
Buck takes off,so does the other one.3rd one stays and watches the whole thing playing out.(25 yds away)
My buck runs off ,20 steps max and starts running real sloppy and staggering.I am breathless-he goes down nose first.Tail twitches once and it is over. Whew!
Show is not over -his friend comes back and starts looking for him.And it is all in shooting range-3rd one is like glued to his spot-they've no clue what happened.
I'm waiting for them to go away-don't wanna give away stand location-and they won't leave.
I am all packed-ready to go-it is after 5 now-soon gets dark and I need to field dress him yet.
So,I start screaching like a hawk at them. Nothing.
I yelp like a coyote.No reaction.
I called my friend and asked to help draggin(did that quetly though). They still there.
I start barking like a mad dog. This bucks ignore me compeletely.
Unbelievable!
My throat hurts-I can't bark anymore. And they won't leave.
Did turkey-to no avail.
So,I ahd to give away my position and come down, and they still did not really ran.Just walked away.
That was my hunt-killed buck, barked at others and had real good time.
Perfect heart shot BTW.
Took out 1 rib on the way in,arrow broke in half. One half exited clean. The other fell off.
My one of the best hunts,I think.
