How many hours does it take to mount a typical deer?
Are there any special tools/equipment that is required?
I've thought about giving it a shot for quite some time but have never tried it yet.

Jay. The time for a seasoned Veteran is different from that of a novice. I will give you an approximate rundown On the two. Bear in mind this is for a commercial Mount, NOT a show quality mount. which could take as much as 100 Hours.
Skin head: Professional, 20 Minuets Novice, 1 Hour
Turn and flesh Cape: professional. 2.5 hr. Novice 4hr.
Tan Hide. actual work time. 2 hrs same for Both
Prep Form, ear liners, etc. 1 hr Same for both
Fit and mount hide. 2 hr Professional, 4 hr novice
Tend mount wile drying 1 hr Same for both
Finish and detail 1 hr Professional 2 hr Novice
A professional will Have aprox. 10 hours in a mount, wile a novice will Have 15.
Many of the tools requires are commonplace tools that are readily available. S needles make the job easier. Bit a good sail needle will do the job. Tackling your first deer is no big thing. Anyone with a degree of common sense can do it. And produce a decent mount. Attention to detail, and achieving good expression comes with time and practice. I am off to fair for a week. But when I return I will begin a thread done in series Explaining what is needed, and how to go about mounting your first deer.
