Saturday we rode the mare and were happily surprised at how well she did. We did find that she is bridle wise and handles pretty well. Here are pictures of the kids when they rode.

Can you pony the filly with the mare?Horses are herd animals and it helps mine when they have a buddy with them.Is your filly lead broke? And does she know WHOA? to me that is the most important command for my horse to know.I want my horse to lock up when I say whoa.By the picture yall are well under way with that mareand remember to teach a horse one thing at a time. When I am teaching a young horse to ride after they are use to the bit and saddle I put a big bag of grain on the saddle and walk beside them and work the rains as my oldest girl leads so they will have an ideal as to what I mean on left right back and whoa. Then when I am comfortable I sit on the saddle and have the kid give me a pony ride I do all of this in a 12 by 24 aile in my barn. Then I take the horse to a 40' round pen.I have my girl give me another pony ride and then solo.If the horse acts up on any of the lessons I stop and go back a few steps and start over.I always end a session with the horse doing 1 thing that I ask of it . And then I give the horse praise for doing it.It dont have to be anything big just positive. After solo in the round pen I then ride the horse to the barn at a walk. Then my girls saddle up there horses and I follow them around the field. This formula works for me but you may have to improvise. Also I only work a young horse 15 or 20 min. at a time I dont want to become overbearing to them.It usally takes me 1 or 2 weeks to complete this formula on a 2 year old but in your case with the horses that are already saddle trained you could run through it in very little time.Have you had your gelding uner saddle yet ?They both might be great riders just needing someone to get on and ride.I also like this formula on older horses I dont know for a piece of mind before I climb on their back. Joe no haven't ridden the gelding with saddle yet. In fact he's only had the saddle on once and since has become impossible to catch due to a strong bond he has formed with filly.
Mare does know the word whoa and is doing very well so far. The filly has really hampered us since she has become dangerous (will walk to within 10-15 feet of anyone, then lays ears back and begins rearing/striking out at anyone in her pasture) So we are working on having her removed from this property and selling her. I am too new to horses to want a dangerous horse around me I can't control. Once we get her out of there, we'll begin more work on the other 2.

Sounds like a smart move.
