Hey, nice to see this forum.
Last weekend, I attended a "rondezvous" at the Red River Meeting house...a log building built to commemorate the first "camp meeting" and the "second Great Awakening" which began near here in the region of the Cumberland River (and where the Cumberland Presbyterians were formed). It was a small event, and there were about 10 camps there. Not strictly "period correct" but that's just fine. Very family oriented. Met some nice people there. There were several Divine Services, but I was only there to attend Sunday morning. Actually, a good service. I am very much an "Old Light", and no one fell on the ground "slain in the Spirit" as many supposedly were in 1800, so I was happy. There was a man leading the singing that played an acoustic 12 string guitar and a teenage-something young man playing banjo and violin. An "old fashioned" Kentucky service. Actually, some very nice, loving people.
The grounds consist of a log church building (modern made) and an old Presbyterian graveyard. The rest of the area had scattered trees, was well-shaded and the whole place was quite nice and neat. There was no shooting, and I saw very few guns there in the open, but that's fine. There was tomahawk throwing, and there were lots of "Scottish" kids playing "war" with duct-tape swords and axes. They also had some demonstrations and a skillet-throwing competition, and a husband-calling contest.
It is located in Schochoh, Ky. in Logan county (just south of Russellville) in more-or-less southwest Ky. about 30 miles West of Bowling Green. Best of all, (at least for me) it is only about 25 miles away from me!
