Sunday at church during Sunday School the message was on baptism. The pastor was explaining to us the difference between John's baptism and the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ. John's baptism (the same baptism that Jesus used) was the baptism of repentence. It wasn't until after Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected that there was a better way of baptizing. That being in the name of Jesus Christ.
I have been going through many tough times lately and have gone to bed praying. Many times I fell asleep while still praying asking the Lord to show me the way and show me what he wanted me to do.
This Sunday I felt God's presence and he was telling me it was time I was baptized. No I hadn't come to church prepared for this, but one kind lady in the church helped me in that regard. After church services everyone drove the 3 mile trip to the creek and although it was quite COLD (bone chilling is the appropriate word) I was baptized in the icy waters of that creek. The entire church came along to witness the event. It was something that I never expected, but I can tell you that I've got the strangest sense of peace and having such a weight lifted off of my heart and shoulders.
Just wanted to share it with you.

Well I am glad you feel better and have a better understanding of Baptism. Many people are confused on this issue and think it has something to do with obtaining or keeping salvation, when it is not at all related. Thanks for sharing, Rman

I think alot of it could also be in the way it is presented. Some pastors will say something to the effect of "Get baptized or go to hell" in essence. They don't explain what the difference is in the way they were baptized and the "better way". When I was an infant, I was "baptized" into the Catholic faith. Actually if you know anything about Catholics, it's not a baptism at all, but a sprinkling of holy water on the child. Then as a teenager, I began exploring as we had Christian missionaries that would host a summer daycamp.
It doesn't matter what faith you are, it matters in how the material is presented. If presented in an antagonistic way you are going to get defensive and possibly even leave the church.

Mama Flinter, Great to hear that you followed the Lords leading and were baptized. As a result you were blessed by Him. Please pray for my wife Sharon that she will come to understand what baptism really means. She was also baptized as an infant in the Catholic church. She doesn't feel that she needs to be baptized after recieving Christ as her Lord and Savior. Cal
