My Turkey shotgun is a 3” 870 Magnum pump from Remington. Attached on the vent rib is a set of Star Dot (fluorescent tube) open sights. The choke tube is an aftermarket item that has a .665 bore dia. for really tight patterns and is ported. Sorry I can’t remember the name of the company that produces it as it was purchased on the road at a onetime stop at a gun shop but was advertised as the tightest available. #5 shot is my favorite also and will be developing 1-5/8 oz load soon for it. For now factory loads are sufficient but you know how re-loaders always like to add a personal touch to their own loads for velocity and sometimes better patterns. Ed T

My favorite is a my Remington 870 Express Mag. Mossy Oak. Star Dot choke. It shoots Win, #6's as good or better than any gun i have seen. Of all the turkeys i have killed (10) this gun has taken 9 of them. Great shooter.

hey bayouman, how's ya' doing. the recoil is as bad as a 3 1/2 incher or a full house 2 3/4 in a feather weight pump. not a gun for the skeet and trap range but, a hammer on the grand old bird. the gun came with a full tube, sling, cammo stock and drilled and taped for a scope rail. $225 total. it's a sb2 model. when i was a kid, i could carry a 100 lbs of gear and run all day long. thought i needed heavy pump and 25 rounds to boot! now, cammo cover alls, hat, lite boots, 3 rounds, two calls and the gun. sit , call, waite 15 min, move 50 yards farther along the ridge. your only going to get one shot. the other two rounds in case i run into trouble ie... ufo, big foot, ubl or god forbid------ my ex-wife! ;D

I shoot a Browning BPS with a vent mounted scope mount that I machined (while the boss wasn't lookin). It paterns well with several differant loads, I prefer 3 inch Winchester HV, number 4 shot.

TKO, I started Turkey Huntin with an old Ithica 30" FULL choke 2 3/4 ", that was my Dads. I never cared for it as a wing shooter as the stock is too straght, not enough drop at comb. But my gosh that thing shoots a good pattern. When my wife agreed to me getting my Browning, the Ithica got retired. In a heart beat I might add.

:)I think I've just found a new "favorite" turkey hunting gun - a custom muzzleloading 12-gauge built on a salvaged Savage Model 10ML II action. The gun features a "jug choke" that patterns unbelievably well. Use this link to learn more about the gun and two 25-pound class Missouri gobblers taken with the gun this spring. www.hpmuzzleloading.com/MLshotguns2.html Toby

my favorite turkey getter is a Mossberg Model 835, 3-1/2", 24" barrel, H.S. Strutt choke tube, quick release swivels and nylon carrying strap all in advantage camo. Sitting on top of the receiver is a Leupold 6x42 multi coat scope with a Leupold target dot and a very fine cross hair reticle setting on a 1pc base with Leupold rings. The load of choice is Remington #4 heavy shot. It also has a 3# custom trigger job and re-worked safety. This combo will " Close the Deal" as they say, and has many times! Pocampo

OK laugh, My favorite is a mossberg 20 guage using factory no 4 shot. It has a tight choke and the patterns are equal to any of the 12s I have shot against. Recoil is light and I don't try to sling shot beyond 35 yards. I have shot several good toms and none have attempted to raise their heads indicating a second shot is in order. The thing that makes me keep on using this shotgun is it has gained a reputation. it is said than when you hear that little pop from pops gun you can bet that there will be meat for the pot. It doesn't require a lot of lead to put a big tom down for the count. It does require shot selection and accurate shooting

After suffering shoulder bruises and a rattled brain from a Rem. 870 Express I decided that a turkey was simply not worth the punishment I had to take. I traded for a Mossberg 20 guage and put a aftermarket tight choke in it. On paper I discovered that it would pattern as well as the agerage 12 or better and that the recoil was so very much decreased. I found that it handled factory 4s real well and have taken two toms and a bearded hen with it. One was out at 40 yards and none needed a second shot. I stuck tru-glow sights on it and unless you want to pay tripple what it is worth then forget about buying it. I am a pleased turkey hunter. Many shooters argue that a 12 provides more velocity but I disagree with that. I think velocity is determined by the charge behind the shot. But that is just my opinion. I love to read the post on this site.
