I got hooked with turkey hunting a few years ago when I called a big tom in and took it. There is just something about the interaction of calling and their response that gets into one blood. Having five or more strutting, gobbling and responding to your calls out of range for thirty minutes before getting close enough for a shot is about as good as the sport of hunting can get. A few day ago my son opened my closet door and said to his Mother: Dad must have over a dozen box calls. I guess I am addicted to buying calls but I have been seeking the perfect one for me. My last purchase was The Heart Breaker Model 226 made by Primos. To my ears it sounds exactly like the real thing and I am confident that the turkeys will respond well. But those old gobblers by nature expects the hens that are seeking romance to come to them. They think if they gobble and show themselves then the hen should come. You can't depend on my example because I use a .20 gauge shotgun and claim that it outshoots most 12s. Funny part is that I have proved it on paper targets a couple of times. I am eagerly waiting for April to arrive and get out there and start talking with the turkeys.
