I have an extra barrel for my 3" 1100, no rib, fixed choke. I was thinking of sending it to Briley to have it shortened, adding screw-in chokes and a lengthened forcing cone. No bead or rib, I was thinking of putting it on my 1100, which has a provision for a Red-Dot type sight or scope. Now, what length should it be? 30" is a bit too long......... Strictly for turkeys, probably with Hevi-Shot. Also, since it's a standard bore, what choke should I use?

Blue Dot, I would think anything over twenty two inches with a good choke tube should be fine. Yes, 30 Inches is a bit awkward on close encounters. Now that I have responded to your post you can respond to mine. That way neither of us will feel neglected. Oh yeah, what choke should you use. It is an oddity but I have found that it depends on the shotgun. Sometimes a tight choke seems to do worse than one more open. There is just no way to get around finding the combination that paterns best. That is the beauty of the screw-in chokes. Good luck, the season is just around the corner.

I would have to go with a 24" barrel.

I personaly would leave it the length it is. Longer barrels are a bit more awkward, but your shot will pack a good deal more punch at the target from a 30" as compared to a 24".

22 inch is my favorite. I have a mossberg 835 and a charles daily maxi mag both 24 inchers. i would like a little more manouverbility in the 22 inch.
my friend has an 870 pump cut off at 20 inches with a forcing cone an turkey tube. he loves it and swears it to be a 50 yard gun.
