The first two days of the season were pleasurable and I got to see some hens up close to my blind. I didn't hear a gobble or see a tom but today was different. I got into my blind at 9:00 AM and called pretty often and watched a couple of hens feed close in. I did some reading and ate a large roast beef sandwich as I waited and waited. Finally about 1:30 PM I heard one gobble in the distance but after thirty minutes of calling I decided he wasn't interested. At 2:15 I decided to call it a day, took the shells out of my 20 Ga. Closed all the windows and opened the door to leave when the course clucks of a Gobbler cause an adrenalin rush. Now I rush to get the door closed, a shell in the chamber and a window open. By the time I got ready to slide the plexiglass window open the gobbler was ready to leave in a fast walk. When the sliding plexiglass window opened it made noise and the gobbler stopped to take a look in my direction. I put the crosshairs on its head at 35 yards distance and pressed th trigger. He went down instantly and I knew he was mine. He weighed 22 lbs. had one inch spurs and a ten inch beard. I was very thrilled that my new Mossberg 500 20 ga. did a great job at my personal Maximum range. For readers who question this type of hunting let me say that I am on oxygen, have COPD and can't play that chase um down game any more. But, the thrill of the hunt is still in this 77 year old man. I used factory 3" No. 4 shot. I have one down now and one more to go to limit out. Good luck to all. OZ.
