On 10-30-5 the last day of muzzle loading season in Okla. I was at a great "public hunting area" with lots of hog & deer sign. I set up downwind of it and after a couple hours this black sow about 180 pounds worth walks out. She was only about 50 yards away so when she was broadside I took the shot ( I had been sitting on a stool with some brush around me to break up my silioute) and she acted like she hadn't been hit and runs off.
So I reload my Savage muzzleloader (useing smokeless powder & Hornady 250 gr. SST .45 cal. bullet) and wait about 10 minutes before I check for blood. I can't find any blood but I knew there was no way I could have missed.
After finding several hog trails and checking along each one I finally found some blood on one and followed it to my sow. The SST went through her lungs & she only went about 60 yards before she dropped dead.
Didn't have camera with me and it was getting dark so I removed her head (to reduce the weight I would have to carry out) and field dressed her.
My GPS showed that I was about 1/4 of a mile from the nearest road so I marked her location and returned to my vehicle to drop off my rifle & gear. It was a long and tough drag out but definately worth it.
Can't wait to go again. I wonder if I should try to bait them since the area is pretty thick. Do any of you have any suggestions on baiting hogs?

Masterhunter I am not familiar with hog hunting so I can’t offer any suggestions here but can congratulate you on a successful hunt. Congrats and thanks for taking us along on your hunt. Ed

180 is a good size lady from my understanding ( no pun intended). I have no useful advice to you about baiting hogs, as I am not sure what they would like to at outside of what good ole regular swines like? Nice job and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
