Help me plan a pronghorn hunt?

I want to hunt Pronghuns with either my handgun or muzzleloader. The earlier the season the better for me due to work obligations. An experiences or recommendations would be appreciated.

Look up Wyoming fish and Game alot of public land to hunt for a do it yourself deal.

I go to New Mexico each year. The season is 3rd week in September, one weekend.

However, you either have to have a guide or know a landowner to purchase landowner tags. Otherwise, you have to draw, not likely.

I can't imagine hunting them with a handgun or muzzleloader. I have killed 6 so far, 6 straight years, and most of my shots are between 280 and 400 yards. However, there are those in my party that get shots (especially 2nd, etc shots) at 150 to 250......so I've seen that. My closest first shot was probably 180 yards, my furthest was probably 400.

I do believe WY has more tags available, more antelope, bigger herds, and easier to do as a self-hunt...........but not sure. I just stumbled onto one landowner that takes care of us annually, a great deal, and that's all I do.

Thanks for the info Buckrub! 280-400 yards would work fine for the handgun but not for the muzzleloader. I was thinking WY and there is a group of long range handgun shooters that go as a group every year that I may join, but not sure. Application deadlines are fast approaching.

I don't think I can help you this year. Check with the Montana Fish and game for surplus tags.

I have land in SW Montana. There is real broken and timbered country around that make stalks for a pistol or black powder possible. I'd love to help since revolvers and flintlocks are my weapons of choice.
