ok thais is pretty general but what is your favorite powder for your hunting , target, or all around rifle loads. i see in other posts that TKO likes IMR 4350, of wich im going to try in my 30-06. but i also hear that IMR 4064 is very good also. so this might be good for some reloading starters?
right now im using IMR3031 with good success BUT looking for sub MOA at 200.

Rifleman, I just cant get over you with a 30-06 and still shooting that 25-05 I think that is difficult to beat 4350 powder, pretty versatile, as is 4064 too. -bubba

TKO have you ever tried the WIn 231 in 45 acp? I was advised by one of the USMC pistol team members and I did test learn at least in my match 45 I used to have it did have a significant impact on accuracy. Also HP38 is supposed to be comparable, I had a 8lb jug i was meaning to try someday but I sold out before I got around to it. Did I tell you how happy I am that I got that monkey off my back ;D

Rman,
I have heard nothing but good about W231. I have never tried it because the loads I use now group better than I can hold.
That monkey gets pretty heavy now and again doesn't he? ;D Mine has been putting on weight. ;D

I don't have a favorite. Every powder has a different application. Some work better in different bullets. For example I use IMR 4895 in 30-06 and IMR 4350 in 243. I also H 380 in a 22-250 and for my Savage have had good luck with 4759.

I use IMR-4350, 55.0 grains of it in my .30-'06 and I drive all my jacketed bullets from 147gr through 200gr with the same load. My m-70 likes it and despite the variations in velocity of the different weights, there is little change in the POI within 100 yards as in not enough to worry about. 150yds + is where you start to see real changes, the 147gr FMJ's & 150gr JSP's will print about 1" higher than the 180gr JSP's but accuracy starts to fall off beyond 200 yds with the lighter bullets. My long range paper punchers are the Sierra BTJHP Match Kings which also work good for smaller game under 100 Lbs. 30-30 likes IMR-4320 the best with the Nosler 150gr BT flat points. Don't recall the charge off hand but it's running top end but this is a winning combination in a gun that is safe to handle it. Dropped a nice 175# deer with it here in PA years ago from an old single barrel Savage break open at just over 100 yds and he went down where he stood. My m-94 liked the same load too...still waiting to find an old Savage bolt in .30-30 to replace the 94 I sold....IDIOT! Bullseye. Definitely the ticket for scatter shots in revolver calibers (load my own with wads). Also works very well for light wad cutter loads, got one for my .357 single shot rifle that is nearly silent. Love Alcan AL-5 for nearly all other pistol loadings. Very clean and consistent across the spectrum of charge weights which is something most powders won't do. Only have about 3# left of this. IMR-4227....odd duck here, I see some folks like it in their MLII's or whatever but I have yet to find any good use for it. I got it to push the 300gr HP's out of my 45 colt but it just does not give a good burn or performance. Tried it in a few other loads with similar results, got some left I'm going to try in the .222 rem. but I don't have my hopes up. OK, I'm done rambling.

I like 4350, I can load 63.0 grs. in my 7m/m mag, 154 Gr. Hornady bullet and if I went on a hunt and forgot my ammo, I could use Factory Winchester 150 grain and do not have to resight. I have used 4350 in several applications with great results. Also 4831 is very close. Use Winchester 748 in my 223. Anyone have a favorite load for the 300 Remington Ultra Mag? I bought a Sendero, shoot well enough with 4350, but am always experimenting. Lou

Have never found any one powder to work good in all calibers either, but the 4350 and 4064 does shoot well in a 30/06.I use 4064 in my rem 742,haven't even shot it in years though, and use R-15 in my rem mtn rifle.Don't know what rifle you have in the 30/06 or what grain bullet you want to try but if its a 150 grain I would give the R-15 a try.Good luck to you

Checkout this group just shot yesterday with an out of the box Rem classic in 243 that I bought the first year they started making the classic(don't remember the year) I used 100gr. Rem cor-loc,H 4831 (46 grains) and fed 210 pri. The group measures .478 in @ 300 yds. The upper group was with a sierra 85 gr BTHP,that I was working up a load for. This load was Imr 4350,45 grs @3192 fps.
