Reloading the 45-70, do you recommend magnum primers or not?
thanks!

Bubba,
I don't use them in my .450 Marlin, but I do in my Lott. Neither are a .45-70, but the .450 is darn close.
I wouldn't use them in a .45-70 unless they are called for in a given loading manual.

thanks! think it would hurt to use them? I had my reloader (dillon) filled with them, primed the brass and loaded some before I figgured it out(oops!)
they are low powered loads, not anywhere near max loads.
thanks again!

bubba,
If you are shooting low powered loads, I don't think that it will hurt at all. Just keep in mind though that once you work up a load with mag primers, if you change back to standard, it might change the way the load groups and/or the POI. If it does, and you have a chronograph, just bump your powder charge till you hit the velocity of the original load and you will be good to go.
Best Regards
