Can help here. I am shooting a Rem 700 Sendero fluted SS with a 6 x 20 x 50 (30 m/m side focus, MIL dot) Leupold and my brother is shooting a SS 700 DM w/brake 6 x 20 x 50 Leupold, both in 7 STW. I load for us both and we are both using 160 gr. Accubonds, WW brass, Fed 215 and 77.0 grains of IMR 7828 (THIS IS ABOVE BOOK MAXIMUM SO APPROACH WITH CAUTION). Both rifles shoot this load under an inch and mine will toss them into little clovers. Shot three deer last year with them and my brother and his friend are taking the 160 Accubonds to Western Canada for their guided hunt in Saskatchewan. Was using 150 Ballistic tips in the STW and 7m/m RUM but had too many bullets blow up and not perform although they shot match sized groups. More my fault then the bullets, I do not think they are intended for that speed at closer range. Killed deer dead mind you just wasn't getting the penetration that was desired. So far the 160 Accubond has been the golden bullet. I have used H1000 with pretty good results but not close enough to best out IMR 7828 in my gun and the others I load for. I glass (Devcon w/ss) bedded my Sendero and had the action blue printed just for good measure. The trigger was on the edge of being on a cap gun and was quickly tweaked to a crisp 3# (Midway for the spring kits DIY) or a good after market trigger. They take a few dozen rounds first off to really settle in but man do they shoot and will run almost in there with the 7m/m RUM which I also load and shoot but is not my gun. I got my Chrono back from Pact and will post some speeds of the STW and the RUM next week or soonest.

Got out Tue. and shot the 7mm RUM (Rem 700 Sendero) with the 160 gr Nosler Accubonds and Hodgdon listed max grains of H1000 in Rem brass with FED 215 primers. Av velocity was 3164 with a SD of less then 15. Group at 100 yards was a little under an inch for 5 shots out of a clean barrel. ;D No pressure signs. Get that new shoot'n iron Bubba?

Iamsignal3, A few questions if you please. What PACT chrono do you have and what do you think of it, and how do you feel it compairs to say a CED chrono or a shooting chrono? I am looking to buy a chrono so all first hand info is of condiderable value. Thank you.

Gads...... Sorry about the slow reply! I have the Pact 1 XP, but it had a dead front channel out of the box. Called them and they said ship it back and I did, few weeks later I got a brand new one no charge. : ) As for which I like better..... I have had the Shooting Chrony for almost 20 years and have done nothing but put a few 9v batteries in it. It is picky about lighting conditions but I have to know in 20 years the photo sensors have changed. That said I love the Pact, the display is sitting right next to me and the screens are not so picky about the light. I now use the Chrony at the target and the Pact at the gun. I get both the 12' from the muzzle velocity and the 100 yrd (reads easy thru scope) velocity. I got mine directly from Pact and it came with a mounting bar for the screens for less then 125. The Chrony is more compact but if you mess up and shoot it the whole deal is toast, with the Pact your out a screen or two. For me, I reload allot, it is a gotta have gizmo and now I am trying to talk myself outta shootingsoftware.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PTUSB&Category_Code=PT (Warning do not click on link unless your single or your wife doesn't use her laptop)

This is pretty much an idle question, but I'd appreciate your answer.
About four years ago I contacted Kenny Jarrett, a nationally prominent rifle maker in S.C. about building a 7MM STW. He said that he had done so in the past, but "it was the worst mistake I ever made". He explained that the ones he had built ate their barrels at an unacceptable rate. I eventually had another gunsmith build a 7MM-08 for me, and am satisfied you can't shoot a better white tail deer rifle at ranges approaching 300 yards; BUT, I've still got a feeling for the STW. What are your thoughts on this? If I rule out the STW my next rifle would be the 270 WSM.
Thanks.

Spike did Mr. Jarret ever say how meny rounds were fired before the barrels needed to be replaced? I ask because i own a 7mmSTW in a 116SF W/W and have at least 750 rounds through it of 95%+ max loadings and it still shoots fine. Mind you I know a caliber like 30/06 should have its well mintained barell last over several 1000s shots, but still.
My best load ever was: <>73 grains RL-22 <>Federal 215 <>160 grain Nosler Partition <>Winchester brass
Second favorite load: <>75 grains RL-22 or H-4831 <>Federal 215 <>139 grn Interlok or 140grn Nosler partition <>Winchester brass.
Both of these loadings are scarrrrrry accurate. But every thing I have ever fed my STW always shot with in my minimum acceptable accuracy of 1.5" MOA or better. I understand this is common with the 7mmSTW.
