This evening after supper went to the range. Weather was starting to clear but still cool, but wind was light. Got Crony set up and hung my targets. I should explain. I've been trying to work up a load for my new 300 WSM. I plan to shoot 165 grain Interbonds and my first choice of powder, IMR 4350, was a bust. Next choice was 4831 and tested them to the max recommended by my manual, 47.8 grains. Groups were fair and velocity was disappointing and well below factory. Anyway got load info from another source and max for the same combo was 70.5 grains. Decided to give it a try and made up some test bullets. Thought it was prudent to work up slowly and watch for signs of excess pressure. Well, there were no signs. First loads were better and they kept improving. Finally at 70.5 grains got a group of 3/4 inch and velocities just under factory averaging around 3150 FPS. Here's a picture of the target. My group is the one circles. A 4th shot of mine is 2" left but I knew it was left when I fired and it was my fault. The other 4 holes were from another shooter who wanted to try my Crony and because there wasn't time to change targets I let him shoot mine. I knew where my shots were as I could see them. His shots were from 2 different bullets out of a 7mm Rem Mag. Anyway, here's the target.

I agree you have found you load congratulations. good shooting. It would be my guess that that load would shoot good in a lof of rifles. I like seeing people calling shots as you did out of the group and then finding it there. We simply have to accept our errors before we can ever hope to eliminate them
