I am thinking about reloading some 3000 fps hornady interbond 139 grn bullets for 7 wsm. Any recommendations as far as primer and powder. I'm looking for a mild round similar to my 270, pleasant to shoot and a tac driver.
My brother would also like me to load him some loads for his 7WSM but with ballistics closer to a 7-08, around 2850.
Thx for any feedback, first time reloading centerfires.

Look at hogdon powders web site. Both of those numbers seem very achievable. It seems to be easy to load down and impossible to match factory velocities.
It has been written that the velocities are attainable by special powders not available to the public. I rather suspect they are a duplex load.

Some are claiming good results with the new IMR 4007ssc in wsm's. It appears this powder doesn't prioduce the same velocity as say the h4350 slot but works quite well in the wsm and super shorts 9might just be the ticket). IME has been WSM like the pressure to really shoot so backing off a more used powder might not give you tack driving results. If you already have H4350, Re19, etc could always try that first. I have never tried any faster powders like varget but it'll built more pressures being a faster burning powder but won't give you "normal ' velocities. Varget has been claimed to work in many cartridges outside the varmit typicals and may also be one to consider. I have seen references to it in the short mags as well in terms of lighter for cal bullet loads.
Sorry not a great help at trying to download a cartridge..hogdgons loading centre should be able to show you some possibles like mentioned above.
Good Luck

Last year I bought a Tikka T3 in 300 WSM. I decided to shoot 165 grain bullets so bought a box of Fusion to zero the rifle. Got velocities averaging 3150 FPS. Then started to work up a load. Tried 4350 but that was a bust. I then tried 4831. I should say that I was using 165 grain Hornady Interbond. Worked my way up and at 70.5 grains, m y groups were just under and inch and got velocities of 3104, 3154, 3138 and 3081 on the first go round. That's the load I settled on and shot 2 deer with last fall. I'm not sure if that load will work in your rifle but it might be worth a try.

The Hornady Handbook, 7th Edition lists no less than 10 different powders, each of which you can attain 3000fps with lower loadings for the 7 WSM with the 139gr bullets. However, they state that their best accuracy came by using RL22 with 162gr SST's.
I'm waiting for a stock for a Montana Rifle chambered for the 7 WSM and have several bullets/powders/primers for load development. This thing is a monster and will rival Quigley's Sharps in the weight deparment----hope it does so in accuracy as well. ;D
