Okay - I have no clue what will work here and what won't, so I will just tell you what my plan is and let you guys help me out. I am thinking of trying to use an old Ithaca Model 37 to hunt deer with. The gun originally had a full choke on it, but it was bored out recently to accomadate steel shot. I have no idea what it was bored out to, but I assume modified? It is in good shape (gunsmith verified), and it spent the better part of 20 years unfired in its original box in my grandfathers closet. Anyway, can I shoot slugs out of this gun? I hear rifled slugs are the pill of choice when it comes to a smooth bore - but will they work with a choke as tight as modified? If slugs are ok - any recommendations? This won't be a primary gun by any means, I am just looking to give it to a buddy to hunt with in the thick bush. Max range 50-75 yards. What do you guys think?

I would try Brenneke original 1-1/4 ounce. Last time I shot them was in 2001. Gun - Rem 870 - 12 Ga Barrel - Smoothbore, full choke with rifle sights. Target shows 7/8" group for 3 shots at 50 yards. (shot from bench)

I would try Brenneke original 1-1/4 ounce.SNIP BINGO They shoot great in my 1100 modified choke. My second choice is a Winchester and you could not give me a Remington. Once I found the Brenneke slug I never bought anything else, and that was at least 10 years ago! With that said, every shotgun seems to have a mind of its own. edge.
