I have a chance to buy a Reminton 1187 Premier 3" magnum autoloader. It comes with all the chokes and a cantilever rifled barrel and 100 3" steel #2 shotshells. Anybody shoot one of these? Are they reliable? I have always owned Remington pumps but have limited experience with the auto. I am getting back into duck and goose hunting and that is what it will be used for. The gun is mint. What do you think?

The 1187 is reliable and has been in production a long time. Naturally, if possible get a guarantee that it functions well. Better yet, if you can shoot it before buying do that. Buying a used automatic firearm always carries a risk of dissatisfaction.

That sounds like a nice gun. I've been toying with the idea of buying a new shot gun to replace my 40+year old Reminton 870. I'm looking for something that is ready to shoot steel, which my old gun won't. The auto loader sounds good, but, because of our gun laws and the rumors that the gov't is going to ourlaw all semi auto rifles and shot guns I think I'll go with a pump. Saw a nice one in the gun shop the other day. Chambered for 3 1/2 inch and comes with several chokes. Oh, it was a remington 870 with vent rib. Going to have to give that some serious consideration.
