I'd like to see everyone update their profile and include their gender, age and location. Sometimes it's interesting to know where someone is located and their age. This can be done and still maintain one anonimity.

I agree with RAF; I think all members should be encouraged to fill in most of the holes in their profiles, and new members must provide this info. When it comes to e-mail address that should be up to the individual. I just checked the "newest member" thread before writing this and sure enough there it was...the only info was user name, and a hidden e-mail address. filled in by the latest new member. I can't see why anyone who wants to be a part of a group like this would want to remain so anonymous...... unless perhaps they are an old fart and live under a rock ;D ;D Just my 2 cents worth Soggy

RAF While I agree with you, there is simply no way to enforce making someone fill in their profile. With all the hacking and such going on throughout the internet, some folks are very leary of giving out any information especially when they join a forum. In all reality, they are not trying to be secretive, usually they are trying to protect themselves.

Mama I agree with you but giving your age and geographic location shouldn't make a difference. Sometimes when you read a post it would be nice to know how old the writer is and where he or she is located.

I thought the sole purpose of the Savage Muzzleloading Message Board as well as all the other message boards was to provide a forum for the sharing and exchanging of info, ideas, experiences, etc., to inform and broaden our knowledge of certain topics in regards to our interests, hobbies, etc. I also thought that ALL threads were to conform to rules and Board Policy and would be left posted or deleted based on its context and merit and not on the authors age or geographic location. What possible difference does it make if your age or geographic loc is posted or not unless some would want to use this to discredit your credibility or to lump you into a certain age group, like the "Old Fart and Rock Comment." I'm 55 yrs old, does this mean i'm an "Old Fart", therefore have nothing of value to share or to contribute to the thread/topic, or for that matter a teenager like BILL GATES once was for example. Where would we be without his contribution today? IMO the age and geo loc would only tend to serve some who would try to use this info against the poster to their advantage, and that would be "Age Discrimination". Can we really gamble or afford to put up barricades to further limit the info posted on this board by giving some more ammo for their ill intended use. In order to promote the hobbies and sport we all love (Hunting & Shooting) and to pass this Heritage on to future generations we must encourage ALL to share and be a part of the process and stop the derogatory comments and smart alleck remarks intended to intimidate, humiliate and embarrass by some who practice this here with regularity. The length of your whiskers on this board shouldn't determine if this is allowed to happen or not, nor the amount of info that you bring. I totally agree with Rman that more moderators or needed to inforce Board Policy and to police these actions and that 3 strikes your out is a very good idea. Where we might disagree is in the way it is inforced. I strongly beleive you teach people how to treat you, and just by a moderator sending a pm to the perputrator does nothing for the victim and only saves the perpetrator from the same humiliation, etc. that he just was able to give to the victim of his verbal abuse. Why should he be spared?? If they are publicly warned for ALL to see, they will think twice before doing it again and after 3 such warnings, Your Out, period. In the short time I have been on this board I have tried to encourage all to post and share the info they have ,and to stand up against this negative behavior that is preventing more from participating and all losing as a result of it. A little Respect and Human Kindness is a d**n small $$ Price to pay for all the FREE info that you receive here and you should conduct yourself according to the rules and policy of this board or Move On.With All Due Respect, Pocampo

Pocampo. I am a 1 year "Older Fart" than you. I would hope by now we might have gained some experience that might be of interest to some. I agree whole heartedly with that last part of your post about respect on the board. My own thinking here was it would be nice to know where some is and their age. People from different locations and of different ages think differently. It might help to understand their thinking and reasoning.

Ya Know, I think it is great to be able to communicate with people from all over the world about a subject we all are so involved in. Let's keep it friendly and informative and respect each other's views. I think there are a lot of "older" gentlemen on this board with a wealth of experience we all can benefit from. I have learned a lot from posters of all ages.

When I started this thread it was to satisfy my curiousity. I'm not shy about my age but will admit I'd like to be younger but retain my knowledge and experience. Maybe some younger members here are shy about their age and think someone might think less of their suggestions and ideas because of their lack of experience, they're wrong. I'm certain there are many young folks here that have experienced things I have never seen and it would be a joy to have them share it with us and we "Old farts" would gain more knowledge. I'm sure most if not all of us have gone somewhere on a vacation. We meet other vacationing people. The age and gender is apparent by looking at them. The first thing I usually do, after I've introduced my self is ask, "so where you from". I always get an answer. When I first registered here I filled in all the compulsory fields, as I'm sure every one else did. Some time later I found the profile and figured out how to add pictures and text. I saw the non copulsory fields and thought, what's the big secret, someone might like to know where a new member is from and since he can't see me and make his own determination, how old I am. I did hide my e-mail for the reason Momma stated. If I'm dealing with a member one on one and he needs my address, I'll give it to him/her. I have no problem with anyone who doesn't want to tell us their gender, age or location. That is their choice. I just wanted to state my reasons why I'm interested. Sorry I took up so much space writing this.

If members want to put more info in their profiles, that would be great and I would encourage them to at least put in a city/town and state. However, it definitely should not be mandatory. After all, there might be a little stretching of the truth. For instance, I could tell you I live in Beaman when in fact I live in Conrad.
I know Piggot is in NE Arkansas, and you can bet that if I'm ever in the area - SW is going to get a PM from me. I travel to NJ on occasion and know that one of us (I forget who) lives there. We've got an ex-marine in Indiana that I would drive 50 miles out of my way to meet (is it ex-marine or once a marine always a marine?).
I'll be checking my profile as soon as this gets posted.

Pocampo, I agree that these forums are for information and also a way to make Internet friends. Attacks are not to be tolerated no matter where or what you live in. Neither your sex, age, hair color, or your skin color have anything to do with the ability to post or share information. I do think however we also need to "read between the lines", and see when someone is joking or playing around and we need to have a sense of humor. To joke and learn to laugh at ourselves is good for the soul and our digestive systems. To be serious without any fun and the forums would get really boring. If someone posts something as a reply to you and you simply don't know if they are joking with you simply PM them and see what their intentions were. If I joke around with someone once in awhile you can bet your best bottle of scotch I like this person. Not to be able to laugh and have fun from time to time life would sure get dull.

I agree about being able to laugh, and having fun. I have more fun with ML's than any other firearm I own. Why..... Because of the other people that shoot them. It's slower, more relaxing, and the experiences that are shared are great.

First of all, I may well be older than ninty percent of contributors to the forum. Secondly, I want to say that to my knowledge no person has shown any disrespect toward my views, my opinions or my posts. In fact I have never joined a group more friendly, helpful or respectful than here. But updating my profile is something I need assistance with. I believe it shows me to be 105 when I am only a wrinkled 77 plus. If anyone can send me a PM that leads me to correct this error I would be indebted to you. But, keep in mind that I am not very puter literate. Some days I do feel 105. On others I wonder how I can feel so good at 77.

I don't thing there is anything you can do, short of re-registering with a slightly different user name. I too some times feel 105 :-/when I'm only 57 . Just remember you're only as old as you feel and sound to me you feel young

This is more wonderful than real life. My old profile listed me as being 105 under the ozarkwhittler user name. To correct that I reduced the username to simply ozark and put in the correct birthday. Went from 105 to 77 but it cost me a few tines on the set of antlers that I was growing. Thanks to all of you..
