domost of you handgunners use scopes for hunting or iron sights - have a ruger and s&w 357 - a hawk and 686 - both are older and are not scope ready - is it hard to make them scope ready?

I use a scope out of necessity.
A competent gunsmith can mount the bases, rings and scope for you.
Scopes do take a bit of getting used to because they magnify all the "shakes" that are not as discernable with open sights. They also have a smaller field of view.

I have done all my handgun hunting with open sights.

A 2x leupold is hard to beat on a hunting handgun. The scope has the distinct advantage of putting the sight and target on the same focal plane, and more precise shot placement then irons at least for most.

Acal, a couple of stiff ones in the morning will get rid of those shakes I agree with rifleman, lewy 2x which is really less than 2 is difficult to beat. -bubba

A scope for my long range handguns and red-dots for under 100 yards. The only handguns I have that I use iron sights on are my back up handguns. For up close and personal.
