I recently had an urge to try pistol shooting to occupy the nasty winters here in Michigan. Heated indoor ranges close to home seemed like a good deal as opposed to driving 3 hours up to the farm to shoot my Savage ML and other rifles in the snow and wind. I bought a new Ruger SR9 and I think I have a new passion. This is just plain fun. I can turn money into noise much faster than I ever could with my long guns. My only question is why did I wait so long.....

JimA, For many of us shooting pistols and revolvers is just that, a passion and it takes practice to shoot them well, (a good excuse to shoot more) lots of practice. As far as turning money into noise goes,if you pick up some .22's and set up your reloading bench to pack your own center-fire cartridges. You can turn less money into more noise in the long-run (a good excuse for the Mrs. as to why you need to buy more handguns and reloading gear). I personally find a great deal of satisfaction from shooting my own loads and loading them is as much fun as shooting them (almost). Don't forget about the big bore and magnum handguns. I cant find any excuses for these other than they are just plain fun (personal defense and hunting perhaps). Just make sure to be safe and have a BLAST.

illinhunter, I sure agree on the reloading part. I have found that processing brass and handloading is almost as much fun as shooting. I have put about 2500 rounds of mostly reloads downrange since I got my Ruger. It's my newest but outside of a skeet gun it probably has the most ammo through it. No problems whatever. I can see that I will be looking at revolvers in the near future, maybe a big bore for hunting and a .22 for plinking.
