At the present I will be shooting a Horton Explorer XL 150. I wish I could afford either and Excalibur or a Ten Point.

I wish they were allowed in Indiana. I've always thought they were really neat, but since they aren't allowed, I've never owned one.
I should note that they are allowed with a Handicap Permit.

A good while ago I had shoulder surgery and could no longer hold any conventional bow at full draw, So I got a permit to use a Crossbow, I purchased a PSE and a lifetime policy, well the bow developed a crack in one of the limbs, PSE advised me that they no longer made their own and that Horton now supplied them for PSE. They said to return it too them and they would send me the newest PSE made by Horton. Got it not sure what model of Horton it is but it shoots great. Have taken numerous deer with it. Now in Maryland if one reaches the age of 65 and posseses a Lifettime Hunting license, he is allowed to use a crossbow anytime. Now under the ge of 65 they have a two week season for everyone. I have found out a Crossbow is not any better than a regular bow yes it is more accurate but try to cock it in a tree stand without the deer seeing you. And one must still know the proper yardage. The horton I have has a tendacy to creep up the dial and change the yardage dial, I was missing one deer after the other and couldnt figuire out why, then I happened to notice the dial was set on #3 insted of zero, now I check all the time and ever since then I haven't missed. Predator, That is a good bow. Did you get the red dot or the magnified scope? I've got an old Stealth and love it. Let us know if you have questions. We'll be glad to help. Kansas

I bought the xbow during a going out of business sale and have since put on the accudraw, a red dot scope, limb and string silencers. I have to get it sighted in next.

I have a ten point stealth. It is a neat bow I broke a limb and also the accu-draw and they were repaired very fast and no charge. It came with a red dot sight mounted on a moveable base. The low setting is for 20 yards then click the lever to next notch and it is 30 yards next notch is 42 yards. I have a disability permit (3 operations on right arm) but I am 64 so next year would be legal anyway. The big advantage is that you do not have to pull it back and you can shoot sitting down. Speed and accuracy are about what a good compound are rated for. Redclub

I have a parker xbow. I use the parker sights and never attempt to hunt over 30 yds. It is easy to sight in and use. A bit noisy. Next xbow will be an excalibar.

Bret Bret, Slight correction. Crossbow ARE allowed in Indiana. Non-physically challenged hunters can use them in the late archery season from December 3rd to January 1 2006. They can take a buck (provided they have not taken a buck by another means) and/or as many does as the county they are hunting in allows. The allowing of taking a buck with a crossbow in late seaosn is something we got pushed through last year. You are correct in that physically challenged hunters may use a crossbow with a permit during the entire archery season

Hey Woody, I'm glad to see you made it over here. The more I shoot the Horton the better I like it. I am really satisfied with this bow and plan on spending a lot of time in the deer woods this Fall. Our season starts October 1st and runs through November 8th if memory serves, and this is just early archery season.

I have hunted with a Horton Dakota equipped with a scope for several years. I keep the targets within 35 yards and at that range I feel comfortable of placing the bolt in a good spot. I have taken a some deer and several turkey using this. I can't cock it without using the wench crank cock system but since I hunt from a weatherproof shack that isn't a problem. In fact I my cock it an watch for awhile today until nearly dark. Ben

Excalibur Exomax with Burris Fastfire reflex sight. Shooting 20" Beman Thunderbolts with lumenoks and 125gr Magnus Stingers. This crossbow is deadly accurate and fast. There is noway I could pull it back without the help of a stringer. If I had a complaint it would be that the limbs of the crossbow are wider than those of the compound type. Makes it harder to move around in a tree stand and to shoot around limbs and such.
The FastFire sight is just great for hunting. It allows for both eyes open shooting and I follow the arrow all the way to the target. It only adds 2oz to a 6.5 lb crossbow and the red dot is very easy to pick up when lifting the bow to the shoulder. I don't think I would choose this sight for target shooting as it is 4MOA in size and is a little large for 50+ yard shooting.

Yesterday I fired two bolts with mechanical broadheads at a target 30 yards away. It will keep the bolts within a four inch circle at that distance but I wouldn't try for a deer beyond that range. SW gettomg 2 inch groups at twice that range is awesome. Mine is fun to shoot and with the feeder (They are not using it now) I get the deer where I want them before releasing the bolt. Maybe I am a little better off than the average American Indian was with his bow. OZARK

I shoot a Parker safari Mag 175# like SW's. It's a pretty good workhorse of an xbow and performs as advertised.

Parker Safari Magnum. Getting 2" 60 yd gps off good rests. 341'/sec with 100g pts. Very pleased. I'm shooting the 100g 3 blade Rage. Even these expandibles need aligning like traditional broadheads - it does tighten up groups. Though this is very adequate accuracy, I will still likely go to 125-150g expandibles(have used 125 Spitfires) but don't know of any 125g+ expandibles. There could be a market for a 2 blade(or even 3) Rage 150g broadheads. When shooting a x-bow(of bow) generally every 25g arrow(bolt) change will have a 5'/sec velocity change. With the usage of a lazer rangefinder, the difference between 341 and 331'/sec(100 to a 150g broadhead) makes very little trajectory difference, especially when the 331 has shed less speed by 50 yds than the 100 has. 3" vanes will do quite well if a person is shooting indexed expandible. Also, sight it in using a good rest system and your range finder AND the points you will use(not fieldpoints). Both Rage and Spitfires have practice points.

Anyone tried the Spintite Hyper-speed broadheads? They are getting some good reviews in some of the crossbow forums. The blades have a strange bend in them to allow them to flow more silently through the air. Spintite says they are designed for fast shooting crossbows. Here is a link. www.spintite.com/hyperspeed.html

I shoot the Excalibur Exomax with the Ill. scope. I have taken 5 deer this season with it already. The farthest shot was 32 yards with the rest being 20 yards or less. I feel really blessed to be almost limited out this soon. The Lord is good all the time !!!!!

Our limit is as follows: Unit L 3 does a day (about 300 a year) Unit A 4 a year Unit B 2 a year. I took 1 in unit b and 1 in a wma (Bonus deer) 3 in unit A.
You can only harvest 3 bucks a year in all units total.
I have not been to Unit L yet.
