Bought all my hunting licenses yesterday at Wally world. Added another $12.50 to my total for the year. Still don't understand if it's archery why the additional license ? I wouldn't mind the additional and different fee if I got something for it but I don't get any more time or tags for the $$$.

I agree. They are treating crossbows just like regular archery tackle. BUT you still need the crossbow license. It's a money racket world. But you have the option of either buying the regular archery license or the crossbow license or both. Neither will allow you to use the other. All the regs are the same with the crossbow but you are allowed a scope on the crossbow. I personally think hunting with a crossbow will be more fun than with a regular bow, and I also think more deer will be taken with them to.

How many Seasons do they have in VA?
In the Peoples Republic of NJ:
Fall Bow, Winter Bow & small game $31.50;Non-Resident Bow & Arrow Hunting $135.50 Extended Bow ( the Rut ) $ 28.00;
Shotgun Doe $ 28.00; Shotgun Buck ( Six Day ) includes small game Season $27.50;Non-Resident Firearm Hunting $135.50 Muzzleloader$ 28.00+ $9.50 Rifle Permit.
PS as long as you have 28.00 you can buy permits anywhere in the State. Many places are unlimited Does and ONE Buck TOTAL/Season ( sort of ).
Where I hunt, Fall Bow IF I shoot a Doe, THEN I may shoot a Buck, The SAME for Extended Bow.
Buck Week limit is 2 Bucks ONLY.
Doe Season if you did NOT shoot 2 Bucks during the Buck Season then you may take 1 Buck.
Muzzleloader Season, ( where I hunt ) unlimited Does and 1 Buck.
edge.
PPS there are around 60 different Zones in the PR of NJ! Many Zones sell permits over the counter

Here in Va. you spend $12.50 for your small game license, which you need before you can spend $12.50 for your big game license (deer, bear and turkey tags). If you want to hunt in the muzzleloader season it is another $12.50, and if you want to hunt during archery season it is another $12.50, and if you want to use a crossbow during archery season it is another $12.50. You do not get any additional tags for the additional licenses, just what came with your second $12.50 The seasons vary by where you live in Va, here in Va. Bch. deer season (general firearms) comes in Oct 1st. Late archery season comes in at the end of November, and Muzzleloader comes in the middle of December. For my friend who lives in Suffolk general firearms comes in on November 19th. Here is a link if you want to look at it. www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/regulations/deer_seasons.asp#Firearms_Deer_SeasonsCraig

Thanks, but this is a very strange permit: Nonresident County Damage Stamp to hunt deer and bear in Smyth County, in addition to other licenses, and sold only by the clerk of the county $5.00 edge. I must be missing some good times in Smyth County

Yeah, I have never been over there myself but I think it would be a good time. Too bad it's not Wise county so that you could get a shot at some elk. There were 16 shot over there last year, and they can be harvested on a deer tag. Any elk, antlerless or not on any deer tag. Talk about a deal. On the bright side I believe that you can use a damage tag anytime of the year, and on either sex. Craig
