I do not own a crossbow, but was wondering which one/brand is the best?

I am an Excalibur owner and have been for the last 14 years. Horton, Ten Point and Parker make good compound bows. Excalibur crossbows make recurve hunting bows that are second to none. all their models share the same 3 lb trigger, the limbs are the same as are the stocks. Ease of maintenance is a plus as is the after market service from the factory. Being a recurve, the string can be changed in the field without the use of a bow press. The accuracy of an Excalibur is super. Many owner say don't shoot at the same bull without taking the first bolt out of the target. To find out more about Excalibur and ask questions of other xbows check out their forum. www.excaliburcrossbow.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=1Canadoug

JJW, Do your homework and find a bow that suits your needs and your pocket book. Also don't trust every thing you read. Speeds are relative. Make sure you are comparing a similar weight arrow when looking at speeds and don't always trust what the manf. says. Barnett says it will shoot 345. I have yet to see one do that and have never seen one come close 2 shots in a row. Lots of these web guys have Excaliburs. They are a great bow, but if you just went buy guys that are on the net, you would think excalibur owned 75% of the market. It is probably closer to 20%. Having said that, they would be one of the top 4 companies I would look at: 10 pt, excalibur, parker and horton are the top 4. Go to a shop that has several different models and will let you shoot some. That is the best way. Kansas

Thanks canadoug and kansas, I appreciate your feedback. I guess crossbows are like bows, the FPS that companies give to their products are usually inflated by 20, 30 or even 40 FPS. Its kind of like motorcycles and their advertised "dry weights;" 450lbs actually means 475lbs. Part of me wishes that Minnesota would legalize crossbow hunting for all, as it is obviously easier and more efficient to use than a bow. Well I guess I will stick with my hoyt, as I am rather decent with it anyways.
