This bad boy went out to check his scrape line this evening. He never quite made it to the first one. 30 yard shot and 50 yard recovery.. 8 points and about 180 field dressed.

Congrats! What crossbow/ arrows and broadheads did you use? Blue-Dot-37.5 I just got a TenPoint QX4 this year and wanted to use it as a opposed to my Excalibur Exomag. Both are great bows, just depending on whether a hunter want compound or recurve limbs. But, I think all hunting weapons need to be "bloodied" so I took out the TenPoint. The arrows were TenPoint Carbon Elites with Wasp SST Hammer 100 grains broadheads and 2" Blazer vanes. Total weight 426 grains. I've killed 5 mature bucks and 3 mature does with the Wasps and the furthest any of them have run is 85 yards. Here are the details of the hunt.....I really couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this guy strolling into view. I was set up on a ditch line along a small clover field. The field is 40 yards across to a large set of pines. He had scrape all along the edge of these pines. 40 is my maximum so I felt comfortable with that shot if it should present itself. Anyway, I had two does and a fawn feeding in the clover. They had been out there about a half hour and it was on it's way to get down time. All of a sudden their heads pop up and they look towards the other end of the field and here he comes. He is walking right down the middle of the field which would give me a 20 yard shot. I get into my kill mode where I try and block out everything else and concentrate just on killing that deer. When he got to within 50 yards he veered towards his scrape line. I knew that a certain tree in the pines was 40 yards and the edge of the field was 36. The route he was walking would set up a good 30 yards shot. When he got almost broadside I BAHHED at him to stop him. He didn't hear it or ignored it so I really BAHHED the second time. He stopped and I was already on his shoulder. I popped the trigger and heard a SMACK when the arrow hit him. He immediately ran into the pines. I listened and heard a crash in about 7 or 8 seconds . I stayed in the stand for 15 minutes and then quietly climbed down and backed out going back to the truck to meet my son. We went back into to trail him and he was down in 50 yards. That made dad and son extremely happy. He is a fine 8 pointer that went about 185 field dressed. His neck was swollen pretty good and he was rank with rut odor. Another view....

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at getting a crossbow for the late season and didn't know how to set it up.
That deer looks nicer every time I see a pic of it.
