I just ran across a s&w model 57, pinned 6" barrel, recessed cylinder, blueing 98%, with bright shiny rifling. They want 700.00 for it and I am getting ready to go raid the bank. How much is this gun worth. Craig

IMO the best places to find a representative value for any particular firearm is gunbroker or auction arms. It may take you some time to get the jist of it. You must see what is selling, not what people are asking. Sometimes a major gun writer can seriously up the price of a firearm by writing about it. The last I noticed was an article on the accuracy of the Savage 340 in the 222 Rem caliber by David Petzall. It sent those babies (they are truly ugly enough only Mrs Savage can love them) up about a hundred to a hundred fifty bucks.
