now that most of the land around here is posted my way of hunting over has changed ten years ago we use to drive to the old timers since they dont hunt anymore , my best friend and hunting partner has passed on a nasty accident while working on the high way about five years ago he was the best hunter i know things has changed i hunt by myself alot mostly stand hunting, with the deer population really growing around here im looking to learn more about the calling part of my sport and passion any pointers would be great thanks. Lots of calls available in most stores. What's worked well for us is a set of rattling horns and a grunt call. Works best in the pre-rut.

Broomebuck,
In many parts of our state, deer are hunted heavily. The doe/buck ratio is out of wack to say the least. IMO, this severly diminishes the effectiveness of rattling. If I just wanted to see bucks...any bucks...rattling works a little around here...so does grunting.
However, even though our ratio is improving as we slay does on a 3:1 ratio, calling does not produce great results for us.....unless you just want to see any buck. The grunt tube is very very good though when you SEE a bigger buck that may not be coming your way. It can steer them a little.
It's not like the TV shows around here.

wlimsmeyer 12 years ago i tried and the deer population was really low around here i tried and had this buck ran away like hell so i put the call up and learned how to shoot farther ,im going to give it a try this year the deer population is up alot in my aera i just wanted some real world input thanks
