Finally got the 260 cal barrel put on my short action savage.Had been waiting on it for a little ovr 4 months. It is a match grade 260 in 1:8 twist at 26 in.I mounted it on a short action243 cal savage. Haven't gotten to try it out yet but plan too next week. The top pic is the new savage and the bottom is my older rem BDL in 260. The farthest I have taken a deer with the rem was 442 yds.

Nice looking stuff. I was leaning towards 260 and then I changed my mind and did the 7-08 thing in a model 7 cdl. And then the Mrs took a liking to it, so I may get the 260 after alll

Theres nothing wrong with the 7/08 either.I have one in a rem classic and it shoots.I tried the load below before hunt season last year, even took a nice 10 pointer and a doe.The buck was 100 yds and the doe 140 yds both dropped where they stood. Have took a lot of deer with the 308,260 and 243 also, great deer rifles. The fartherest I took one with the 260 was 442 yds,it took 12 slow motion steps and dropped. Haven't shot the new shelin 260 much yet been waiting on a new nikon scope. If you get a 260 I believe you will like it.

I am sure I will. I had a 6.5x55 years ago. I wish economic situations would have enabled me to keep it.
The popularity of the 7-08 was the deciding factor. I load my own, but sometimes things can happen and the 7-08 ammo is all over the place at about two thirds the price of the 260 fodder, if you can find it.
I got a Nikon Monarch a little while ago. 2.5-10. It seems to get a little 'funny' above 8x. Hard to describe. 8x is fine by me anyway.
The upside of the deal is I got my 25-06 back from the Mrs.

Up date on the savage 260,I got a new nikon 6x24 scope on it and got to try it out tuesday.I started out shooting groups at 300 yds.I think so far it is going to shoot the best group I got was 1/4 in.Got a couple more around an in with different bullets,Let my shooting buddie shoot a group and his was a tad less than an inch. Allready got some different loads loaded up for next week so am hoping it just keeps getting better.

Sounds like real fun herman. The 260 and the 7/08 came out after I quit chasing after a better cartridge. I settled with what you go rid of, the .243. Actually, I figured that nothing would appear much better than the .243 but evidently there has. Have fun, Ben

Ben I am haveing more fun in my older years than I had in my young years.I guess mostly because I have so many choices in rifles.Back then about all a fellow had was a 22 lr and a 12 or 16 guage. If I don't get to shoot one week I am like a drug addatic looking for a fix by the end of the week.I have allways loved to shoot since I was a small boy. I love the 243 also, that is going to be my next prodject getting a barrel with 1:8 twist so I can shoot heavier bullets.I have a rem classic in 243 and it is a great shooter, have taken more than a few deer with it passed 300 yds.Let a buddie use it last year and he got his first long distant deer with it at 270 yds. I showed him how to use the scope out to 300 yds and he said I did it just like you said to do it.He was one happy camper.
