I have looked at a few catalogs that sell ammunition and have nothing for the .243 lighter than 75 grain bullets. 75 to 100 grains seems to be the range of availability. I know that hand loaders loads them much lighter (at least in the 50s). I am curious as to why they are not offered in say 55 grains for varment hunters. Anyone know if they are available and I just can't find them? thanks, Ben

Thanks whyohe, I have a planned egg shoot/sighting in day at my 100 yard range coming up before deer season and I may shoot at some eggs. LOL

55 grain bullets should be available and with the right loading you should be able to get 4000 + or - a bit. By the way. That's a neat way to scramble eggs but how do you get them in the pan? ;D

The way our weather has been lately they will probably be cooked on the string. I am seeking suggestions on this event. I hope it will be fun for everyone. Should I have a grill there for hot dogs? What should be inscribed on the trophy? Another question. I have just bought two boxes of Winchester Supreme 55 grain for my .243. Should I use that or the .17 Cal. HMR? You are all invited to join us. Ben

Ben Ben, I have 2 17HMRs: a heavy barreled Marlin and a custom built. The Marlin is slightly more accurate - no wind appx 0.4" 5-shot 100yd gps and appx 1.2" @ 200 yds. This is with a 4X12 BSA scope! With the absence of recoil and inherent accuracy of every 17HMR I've shot, I'd certainly consider the 17HMR. I've used 55NBTs loaded very hot in 243s to relatively short range(0-200yds) varmint hunt. Red mist!! ;D. They are not good long range loads IMO.
