I'm considering buying a new shotgun. My old one is a Reminton 870 Wingmaster and it's about 45 years old. It won't shoot steel, which is a must now to take ducks and geese. (Lead is still OK for upland game.) What I'm looking at is a Stoeger P350. It has interchangeable chokes. I'm told it's a good gun but I don't have any experience with it so I'm looking for opinions.

Nephew has a Stoeger. I looked it over pretty good and fired a few. I don't think it will last another 45 years, given the volume of waterfowl shots said to be available up there. I suppose 45 more years is a mute point Ever think about rebarreling your 870?

Nope, never gave it a thought. If I do that I'll still have an old shotgun. Still sitting on the fence. Haven't decided if I'll even use it. My wife isn't to keen on wild ducks and geese so I'd have to clean them myself ;)cook them myself and eat them alone.

I have a Browning BPS pump and I really like it. The only problem with them, and this may not affect your situation, is that it is $$$$ to make them shoot slugs.

I am partial to Remington 870's, have 2 of them, a 20 Ga and a 870 Super Mag. Can shoot anything that runs or flies, lead or steel and will last for 45 years.

I like the Mossberg 500. It is not expensive but shoots great. You didn't mention if a slide action would serve your purpose. The 500 was built to military specifications and it has the interchangable choke feature. I am keen on reliability and getting your moneys worth rather than fine looks. Ozark

RAF before you switch, I thought I would mention that there may be a barrel available that will handle steel shot (that is if you wanted to continue using the 870). That is what I did with my Rem 1100, which I have owned for 37 or its roughly 40 years. Cabellas had a waterfowl barrel that has screw in chokes, which will handle lead or steel, and in fact the chamber will handle 3" steel shells, but only the usual 2 3/4" lead shells. This is just for the 1100, don't know what they have for the 870. By the way I bought a 20 ga. 870 wingmaster with walnut stock a couple of years ago and love it. And a last thought- there is another website- duckhuntingchat.com that has forums where members give feedback on shotguns etc., to the point of exhaustion perhaps. Hope this helps. Pete
